Ok, follow me here
Has there ever been someone covering their own song this muchā¦
In 1982, David Coverdale and the original version of Whitesnake recorded the following song on the album āSaints and Sinnersā:
It didnāt dent the US charts
5 years later, with a completely different version of Whitesnake, (and a new hairstyle), Coverdale covered his own song for the eponymous āWhitesnakeā album- with a different arrangement, and lead solo by Adrian Vandenberg.
He then re-recorded it the same year with yet another version of Whitesnake, different players, as a radio edit, with another arrangement. This version went to #1 in the US.
FWIW, I think the 87 Album version is the nazz, and the one iāll always associate with the song in my mind.
trivia- note the change from āhoboā to ādrifterā in the versions. The producers felt the yanks would mis-hear itā¦
Oh, and this. Take back my original ābest sample/coverā claim and replace it with this
perfection
A bit different
Look, I know that musical taste is subjective and all that, but it needs to be said ā¦ most of these covers are not even close to being as good, let alone better than the original and a lot of them are just plain terrible.
Iām sure there must be a way to make a U2 song worse than the original, but I havenāt heard it.
The Unseen cover of Beat It is pretty good.
Someone look it up and post it.
Arguably everything LZ ever put out is a candidate for this thread.
I love how the most shamelessly commercial pop acts of the 70s - and donāt get me wrong, Kiss were absolutey great at what they did - are now some sort of sacred cow.
Becauseā¦ baby boomers.
All we need is the entire back catalogue of āMe First & The Gimme Gimme;sā & this thread will be complete ā¦
In lieu of that, this (these)ā¦

Bizarre Love Triangle

Frente
I donāt know if Frente bettered the original, but they really brought out the lyrics to that song in a way that the original didnāt.
I know, and a lot of the time unacknowledged. Then they had the arrogance to sue anyone who sampled them etc. I love them, but aware of the complex double-standards.
Both of those should be shot into the middle of the sun.
