Best Team I have seen

So along the same lines of the players by numbers, this is would be the best team I have seen play at Essendon in the last 35 years.

Wanganeen Fletcher Duckworth

Foulds Harvey Thompson

Long J. Watson Neagle

Hird Lucas Daniher

Bewick Lloyd Baker

Madden T.Watson Williams

Int. Hawker, Vanders, Mercuri, Salmon.

Good squad there, Fat but I'd swap substitute S Lucas for R Merrett.

That's all.

That's all.

It was a close run thing Diggers, but I rate Lucas, a bees ■■■■ better than Big Rog.

Thing is Fat the best team you have seen would need to be tested. Hawthorn over the same period would make an interesting match-up. In my view if things were to get willing, and they probably would, you'd want R Merrett out there, not spectating.

I'll make I'm the runner then Diggs, then he can still get out to the fights

Mercs was better than Boris.

As a small forward?

Bit short down back for mine. I'd be inclined to drop Duckworth, put Bomba in his pocket, Harvey to that flank, and maybe put TD back. (Roger can then get a game up forward - at his best a great player, and real tough).

You might want to think about Neale Daniher. Didn't play a lot of games, and only just scrapes into the last 35 years, but gee he was good. The way he was tracking he'd have been an all-time great.

Did you say "drop Duckworth"?

I think he was struck by lightning as soon as he typed that.

I'd have Rioli in there somewhere.   At least on the bench.

That man was magic like stars.

I thought this thread was actually going to be a best team that actually took the field.  Not a compilation of best players which combined make up a best team.

I would not know what our best actual team was.

My best side is the 23 players that made up the 1984 - 85 premiership sides. In number order:

1. Neagle

2. Wood

3. Salmon

4. Baker

5. T. Daniher

7. Dunnell

8. Clarke

9. Heard

10. Foulds

13. Williams

14 Elshaug (I am struggling with him)

15. Ezard

17. Carey

18. Van der Haar

22. Duckworth

25. Merrett

26. Thompson

27. Madden

28. Weston

30. Walsh (Was good, 2 flags. E.J Whitten medal)

32. Watson

33. Hawker

36. Bradbury

38. Harvey

Not just the best but the hardest. Every one of them (possibly not Elshaug) would run through a brick wall for their club. Loved 'em.

Which players do you think are playing out of position?

Close, but no.

I am not sure what you mean.

B: Thompson, Fletcher, Wanganeen

HB: Harvey, T.Daniher, Hawker

C: M.Neagle, J.Watson, Long

HF: Hird, Merrett, Vander Haar

F: Bewick, Lloyd, Mercuri

R: Madden, T.Watson, Baker

INT: Salmon, Misiti, Wellman, O'Donnell

That forward line is ridiculous! Decided to put TD at CHB because he could play at both ends, originally was going to have Welly there.

I have watched Bombers since about 1958, or that is when I first remember going to the footy with my Dad.

Best team is what the topic is and 2000 premiership is the best VFL/AFL team to ever have played in my view.  Games with some of the Hawthorn teams of earlier years would have been crackers!!

I'll pick from about 98 when I started fulltime following the sport (even though I've watched large parts of earlier seasons and premiership winning teams finals series from earlier than this time that really wasn't my time) so would be fairly 2000 centric too.

Don't think I've accidentally missed anyone. Mercuri, Stanton, Caracella, McVeigh and the premiership rucks unlucky.
