If Nic Foot didn’t report Zak Butters in gather round, he would likely still have his role with Sports Bet.
Caught a few periods of the Hawks v Dees game today. Seemed like the umps were quite lenient in relation to Hawthorn players making a genuine attempt to dispose of the ball. Invariably they had prior opportunity, did not dispose correctly but weren’t penalised because the umps deemed genuine attempt. The genuine attempt was noting more than a wriggle of the arms that resulted in the ball being dislodged.
■■■■ the genuine attempt - if you have time to genuinely attempt to throw a ball out you have prior opportunity and it should be a free kick.
It must be the most poorly applied rule of all, in multiple ways.
And tonight they randomly ping McKay for incorrect disposal when the ball came out in a tackle.
There is simply no sense to it.
There would be. The pay the frees that “give us the result we need”.
Surprised this thread hasn’t had a bump yet…
Which one? The non mark to Caddy vs the mark paid to Cox. The Day-Wicks holding the ball?
All of those plus Durham holding the ball despite handshaking, Freo just drop it and no call…
Mason Cox “mark” was dodgy as
There’s been some shockers.
Just don’t think anyone cares about the game all that much.
What exactly is the criteria to become an AFL umpire? What are the kpis? @simmo41 , you mentioned that the 5k time trial was the only performance measure.
Does anyone have any insight they can share?
Today was the worst we’ve received this year easily.
To pay that, rather than 100% of the other ■■■■ that goes on was baffling. Umpire had to guess as she couldn’t see his hands anyway.
You could see the standard from 1Q. Caddy marks about 45 out. They get the guy to stand, then 2 freo players run through the protected area. Should’ve been a 100m penalty.
The Cox mark was when I had to take the dog for a walk. And the commentators claim he ‘had a fair bit of it’
We take a mark.
Umpire: “stand stand stand stand stand stand stand play on”
Yep. It made no difference to the result at all. But some of the calls were horrifically bad
I enjoyed that one bloke telling the Freo defenders to move and stand a good metre or two ahead of the actual mark.
Foot levels of involvement there.
AwFL: “Give us the results we need”.
Maggots over-deliver.
I honestly think the worst call of the day was the umpire calling for the Essendon player to stand, when the Freo player was a metre in front of the mark and then allowed the Freo player to just play on. Absolute complete and utter incompetence.
They didn’t replay the umpire contact that we got called for. I would be very interested to see that given almost every time it’s the opposition pushing a player into the umpire.
