But it’s something they try to even out in all games, so it’s a more general problem, not necessarily specific to this game.

However, in those last few minutes, do we want to let the team that is one point ahead hold every player off the ball, grab the ball, and wait to be taken to ground, to just soak up the last few minutes, or do we want to award free kicks for what is obviously a deliberate tactic to hold up play, and have a more exciting finish?

I’d love to see the obvious holding off the ball called more often than it has been this entire year, so that players stop the slow down tactics teams have been using successfully a lot this year, and open the game right up again. Even if it slows the flow of play and causes more stop/start footy for half a season while teams adjust, it would be worth it for the end result.
