Blitz Probe Cycling

By Hanger version, I’m assuming you mean the original design…or have I missed something??

Need 66 more kms for Spring classics challenge - 2 more days after today.

Forecasts:

- Rain every day,

- Temp range is 5 to 15 degrees.

- Wind 25 km/hr

Guess Spartacus needs to harden up.

At least no hills!

It imports your strava ride and creates ribbon profile images like the Giro or TDF ones.  You can adjust profile dimensions to get the look you want and make ride appear suitably epic.

Racing tomorrow...

Good luck!

3rd in the ITT (by half a second!) and 2nd in the Crit where I won the sprint but not the race. Guy who beat me in the ITT also won the Crit so it’s going to take a miracle in this afternoons road race to take the overall win. As long as I can stick around near the front I should at least podium. I take this stuff way too seriously  Good fun tho.

Hmm… Jens Voight I ain’t. Tried the big lead out all ride and exploded in the sprint. Oh well. Tried to win it or lose it. First or last baby.

Want!

Tron?

Yup.

Would need a Bianchi Oltre underneath me to pull off the complete effect, but still looks sick as! :)

You'd have to bring your "A" game :D

Yep 19-20mm with 25mm probably wont even be 25mm when inflated, from my experience it will also have a bulb shape that negates the reason of going wide for superior cornering and ride qual in the first place, to be honest there is not an LBS I even trust, some are so entrenched in the past and 'old tech' its scary what comes out of their mouths.

On a budget hows this...

Rims - Velocity A23

Hubs - Shimano 105 28/32h

Spokes - DT Competiton up front, DT Champion on the rear.

That's about as 'budget' as I'd recommend.

Replacing the bearings is easy if you have the tools - a bearing puller and press, and assuming you know exactly which spec of bearings to get?

I always encourage anyone to try their hand at wheelbuilding, it's not that hard, just requires some time, patience & common sense. If I can anyone can :)

Does require a few specific tools to make things allot easier though.

Got my new hand built wheels this week:

- Velocity A23 rims, rear OC (apex off centre away from cassette). Black rims with silver braking strip.

- Hubs - Shimano 105 (pre-loved), silver.

- Spokes - 32 each wheel, Sapim race silver, stainless double butted - silver.

- Cost around $350 for both.

Plus

- new Tyres - Continental Grand Prix 4 Seasons, 25 mm.

- new cassette - Shimano 13-34T (I had screw on free-wheel before)

Happy with outcome, approx 300 grams lighter than old wheels, and very pretty (I'm a sucker for shiny silver).  After a few test rides - bit faster and cornering is rock solid, ride quality over bumps also seems a bit more 'springy' than 'bumpy'.

Tyres are probably a bit solid and heavy for normal riding, but I am planning a few rides over 'classic' type surfaces in next few months.

Thanks for advice, and also from RnBEyed.

Also now I have spare old wheels I think I will pull them apart and see if I can learn to do a build myself.  I'll clean and reuse rims and hubs, but would like to replace spokes since they are in pretty crappy condition.  Do you have a cheap source for spokes Grade4Teacher?

Oh man I only just found out about the Tweed Gran Fondo late yesterday, trying to talk myself out of it. Would've loved to have gone and done it.

Glad it worked out!

For round spokes I'd get them from Chain Reaction Cycles, but also look on ebay for the odd set you can pick up in the right lengths you need. Some of the Asian sellers will cut them to length if you ask.

I get my bladed spokes from a guy I found on ebay who cuts em to whatever I want.

I highly recommend this ebook, it has everything you'll need to know about building, explain the tools you'll need and you get free updates: http://www.wheelpro.co.uk/wheelbuilding/book.php

I printed it out and always have it at handy when I have a brain fade in the middle of a wheel build and I've gotten rusty :/

Thanks ... looks good, website includes link to specs for building truing stand which is handy too.

Are cycling festivals going to become a thing now ...

Some interesting developments in UK.

1) In Yorkshire:

http://pages.rapha.cc/events/rapha-tempest-festival

This starts a couple of days before UK stages of TDF in Yorkshire and is close to opening stages.  Echo & Bunnymen headlining which says something about Rapha's target demographic for the event.  I reckon it would be a lot of fun with all the teams riding round doing training sessions in the area.

When I was at TDU I thought it needed something like this to cater for interstate and OS travellers.  IMO TDU just focusses on people who live in Adelaide (or who want a hotel base there).

2) In Peak District

Not sure if this hasn't been posted before ...

Just over a year ago, a young and well known local tri-athlete was killed on a morning ride on the Cook Highway, just north of Cairns. Yesterday the driver, drunk at the time of the incident, was sentenced to 3.5 years in jail and will be released after just 12 months.

I am utterly speechless.
