more so asking the question than drawing a long bow.

Your answer appears to be YES - re coincidence.

And you could be right.

Not everything is terrible or a conspiracy.

The high profile lawyer acting for George Pell in the Cardinal’s trial over alleged historical sex abuse, has been approached to act for former Geelong and Essendon coach Mark "Bomber’’ Thompson in the AFL legend’s drug case.
Robert Richter, QC, who also is acting for CFMEU official John Setka in a blackmail case, has been approached to represent Thompson over his mutiple drug charges, including counts of trafficking and possession.
Richter - probably the most well-known lawyer in Melbourne - has not yet accepted the Thompson brief, but it is understood that he is willing to take on the case, depending on the timing and whether he can fit the hearing into his other commitments.

Thompson is due to face court on May 25 for a mention hearing, having been granted bail on May 1 in the Melbourne Magistrates Court after being charged with seven offences including the trafficking of ecstacy and ice and possession of ecstacy, methamphetamines and LSD.
Thompson’s former Port Melbourne housemate, Thomas Windsor, had previously been charged with trafficking a drug of dependence following raids in Geelong and Port Melbourne. Police outlined a seres of allegations against Thompson in court, including that a search of Thompson’s bedroom had uncovered 134.6 grams of MDMA, 5 ½ Xanax tablets, .1 grams of ice, two sets of digital scales and ice pipes alongside Cats memorabilia.

Thompson, a two-time premierhip coach at Geelong and captain of Essendon’s storied 1993 premiership, has not yet been required to enter a plea, though the lawyer acting for him in the May 1 hearing said he would vigorously defend the charges.
A number of former teammates and players Thompson coached in his distinguished career have expressed concern for his welfare since he was charged.
Thompson also apologised to his fans for the turn of events when he saw reporters outside his home on May 2. "Just tell them I’m sorry that they’ve had to put up with this and put up with me. But hopefully we’ll get through it.’

The way justice works. So far Bomba has not been charged with trafficking commercial quantities but reportedly the trafficking charges against Windsor have been upped to trafficking commercial quantities. .
I assume the charges against Bomba could also be amended if he were to not give evidence against Windsor.
Widespread practice ( including in sports anti-doping) and sometimes difficult to call the cops bluff. Should not be allowed,

Richter charges $6-12k a day, Bomber must have his concerns.

He represented me in the Supreme Court, he is a very good Barrister. If you want to win get the best you can afford.

He bombed out on Glen Wheatley for tax fraud a few years ago, huge surprise for RR.

RR is arguably Australia’s finest Barrister. Gets crap done.

SEE YOU AT THE PARTY RICHTER!

After pocketing $7m plus in a property deal 1-2 years ago? Think he can afford RR.

The point wasn’t about affordability.

Whenever you front court you want to be represented by the best. Richter is the best. It’s a simple as that. If I were fronting the Supreme Court I’d want him too.

Money doesn’t go far when you are dealing with the Supreme Court and paying for Solicitors and Barristers. You have to have the dollars in case you don’t win. Richter doesn’t lose very often and he really does his homework.

Even the best legal team will occasionally lose when the facts and the law are against you, but Setka’s legal team seems to have had a massive win with the dropping of blackmail charges. Richter may now be available for Bomba, subject to his workload with Pell’s trial.
As to the cost of justice, there are go fund me type activities to contribute to Pell’s legal costs

Could be a case of- what Pell trial?

Robert richter, sounds like he should be a party at denny crane’s.

also hes’ represented some truly horrible people.

Pells’ trial will simmer and go out. The Catholic Church is a very powerful organisation which make the AFL look like choir boys. I would be very surprised if the case goes all the way. and besides there are judges and then there are judges.
