Bomber Jumper Numbers you wore as a supporter?

Firstly number 2 for Mark mercuri, then 18 for Michael Hurley

4 for Wanganeen when I had a body like him. My jumper is now 25. Draw your own conclusions why.

My uncle had a sports store and gave me and my brother jumpers.

I wanted #8 Ron Evans and my brother wanted #23 Ken Fraser

I got #11 Johnny Birt and my brother #31 Hugh Mitchell

I was lucky as Evans never played for us again, heading for Perth to head up Spotless there.

A couple of years ago, I ran into a guy at cricket called Hugh Mitchell wearing #32. When I mentioned the link to #31, he said he was a Pies fan and had never heard of our Hugh. Strangely, he was out LBW next ball, even though he claimed he’d hit it for 4.

Was always #10 as a young tacker for mine.

For Coleman who I got to meet whilst he was still coach.
And happily to the great CHF Alan Noonan back in the day…

Kenny Roberts

Only logic was his surname = my first name. (Or thereabouts)

80s duffle coat #1 - Merv

#5 Terry Daniher, on a black duffle coat. Years later I met he and and Neil Clarke [RIP] at Uluru on a work trip both in black and red polos.

I’d grown up by then, into my 30s but was [still] completely starstruck. Both Terry and Neil ere gracious enough to agree to a photo that my companion, a female buddy who didn’t know either of them, cheekily requested. I still have it on my bookshelf.

  • Long sleeve Fila ā€œOrangeā€ #10 (inspired by father in law’s Coleman stories). Stopped wearing it because it was itchy and turned blue.

  • Puma ā€œ3 Mobileā€ #5 Hird (signed by Sheedy). Too small now.

  • Adidas Samsung #8 (Winderlich/Bewick). Also too small now. Plus, I refuse to endorse Samsung anymore on principal.

  • AFLW #6 Danielle Marshall - never worn, signed and waiting to be framed

Age and weight gain has probably ensured that I won’t be wearing any new ones in the short to very long term future. #8 and #10 have always kind of been my favourite numbers; when I was playing rec footy in the states I would always grab either the 8 or 10 from the pinnie bag.

Had 27 on the duffle coat. Good old Simon Madden.

Maybe it’s time to buy a new #10

Bring back the duffle coat!

For some it will never leave!!

#5 for Terry Daniher

Don’t know how he wasn’t in the top 10 of the Don the Stat list of best Essendon players since 1980.

5 for Nathan Buckley

#6 for Neale on the back of the duffle coat.
