Was pretty happy with the forward structure last night. Not sure what that means for Bellchambers.
JD is very good in traffic, doesn't panic. In the ruck he gets into the game a lot and makes good decisions.
Very happy with the progress of Merrett. He doesn't panic in pressure and makes good decisions. He might be our lucky charm. When he's in the team we seem to play better.
BJ has been great all year. His kicking, decision making, class, hard running and leadership are exceptional. We're very lucky to have this bloke.
When Zaka turns it on we play well. He might be quiet for a quarter or two but when he turns it on we play really well.
The progress of Baguley has been excellent. Over the last probably 6-8 weeks has really added a bit of run and dash to his game. Is still a work in progress though.
We won because we tackled the best we tackled for a long, long time and won the tackle count 72-50 (note: problem with Carlton: Gibbs 0 tackles, Murphy 2 tackles - both front runners).
Also:
- best forward structure for weeks & weeks. Hurley outstanding at CHF, kicked the set shots he had to but provided an outstanding target at ~ 70m from goal then launched the ball deep inside F50. He was so good they had keep Waite in defence all night.
- It wasn't that we won the I50 count, more so we want a lot deeper a lot more often than the Blues so our shots on goal from closer in and more directly in front of goal. They seemed to have a lot of shallow I50s and wanted to shoot at as soon as they just entered F50. not surprising they kicked so many behinds.
- Our run in the last - Zaka returned to some of his best form in Q4 and dominated the game (thought Goddard BoG, Jobe also very, very good). When he starts running & moving we look a different team. Also thought that was Howlett's best game in a long time. He will start next week.
- KP defenders did well: Hooker much better on Casboult this time, Carlisle, whilst not in the form he was in earlier this year, kept Henderson well under control.
Gee I enjoyed that. Not the best game skill wise, but all heart.
Gee Hurley is important for us. The forward/back debate is simply not going to be a debate until we have someone else who can straighten us up like he does. He isn't Lloyd or Lucas, his hands are a bit shakey, but he presents constantly and brings those around him into the game.

Gibbs zero tackles. Wow.
How is that possible?
How?
Because he's pissweak. Might be a worse no. 1 draft pick than Clive Waterhouse...
Does anyone else thing Joey D struggled to run the game out? He looked VERY tired and slow after half time. This of course is expected and he tried his best every time. Looking forward to seeing him after a couple more pre seasons under him.

Love Merrett .he is everything that Davey will never be and he will only get better . The boy is quick , clean , courageous and gets to the right spots and makes space …I like the boy …as for Alwyn , I’d say the only thing to save him would be if we loose draft picks because when u get subbed off in most games you play it’s for a reason .
Joe was about where he should be... doesn't take the marks he should but he will in time, gets bodied out of a contest too often, but certainly links up around the ground, runs to the right spot and is reasonably clean by hand and foot for a guy his size who's played all of 12 minutes of AFL footy.
There'd be 17 other teams give up their players mothers for that one.

First person in the history of the AFL to tag a player and not lay a tackle. ....

Who did he tag?
Watson in the most impressive effort since Joel Reynolds on Michael Voss in 2003.
In fairness, he probably tried some tackles but his rms were less dense than the ir nd actuallly gve Jobe less resistance when breaking away from contests.
