Brad Scott - #Bradball and bust (Part 5)

We could win the next 2 games.

“Brad had us in the top six at round 3, so he must be a good coach!”

It’s reasonable to argue that whichever way Essendon proceed coach wise later this year, we’re prolonging the pain.

If they keep Scott we possibly have a mediocre coach who won’t extract maximum value from his squad

If we get rid of Scott, a new coach comes in with a new philosophy and this has implications for list management and suggests a recommencement or adjustment of a program

The AFL hauled the Crows into AFLHQ and wanted them to present how it succeeded in a full, long rebuild. It says keys to success was commitment and staying true to its strategy despite noise and it extended Nicks contract three times despite outside pressure at times

Hawks rebuilt and stuck with Clarko. Tigers stuck with Dimma. Cats stuck fat with Bomber.

The theme of committing to a program and backing in your coach has form behind it.

Are there good examples of situations where sacking the coach and replacing him doesn’t push a rebuild and program off course do much that it fails and has delivered the premiership??

When Brad gets replaced, nobody will be angry except for you

Solomon is not the answer, nor has he ever been the answer

Beveridge?

Kingsley?

Bevo is still there… I meant where a new coach comes in midway through a full rebuild strategy and achieves a premiership?

Goodwin?

When Bevo replaced McCartney.

Goodwin was brought in as an understudy to Roos so I’d suggest that was a bit more planned / orchestrated.

That’s a good one :+1:

No I won’t if Brad goes

I’ll be angry that they will replace him with an Essendon player rather then going through a proces to find the next best coach

The president and CEO both left, whatever plan they had with Scott is now redundant. Is Scott aligned to the new president and CEO, if not his days are numbered

Should have a cease and desist notice in your inbox by now

I don’t agree with that. They hired Tim Roberts to ensure continuity to the plan and ensure seamless execution continues.

We will have a process - open to all interested applicants - to find the best Essendon person who has a passing interest in coaching an AFL team

I suppose that’s possible too.

Your references to Clarkson, Hardwick and Thompson prove nothing. Yes, all of them had a bad year and were under pressure at the end of it, then repaid their club’s faith with multiple flags. But those bad years came after previous years of clear improvement and were followed quickly by success. Scott is now in his fourth year and each of the preceding years has been worse than the one before. This is not a setback on an upward path. This year could possibly be slightly better than last year simply because we (hopefully) won’t have as many injuries – but we played the same ■■■■■■ football that we’ve been playing for years and there’s no sign of it changing.

We are bottom 2 this year and bottom 4 the next 2 years no matter who the coach is. It’s not a blip, we’ve finally bottomed out becuase our list is so bad we couldn’t do better if we wanted too.

That’s the thing a new coach won’t change much we’ll still be bottom four for at least the next 2-3 years we are at rock bottom it’s what everyone wanted bottom out and rebuild via the draft

Thompson had Geelong play in a prelim in 2004 and a semi in 2005.
Hardwick coached Richmond to a 15 win H&A season in 2013.
Clarkson won a premiership with Hawthorn in his fourth season after going 4 → 9 → 13 win H&A seasons.

Brad Scott has never in his 13 year (to date) career coached a 15 win H&A season.

I agree with others it doesn’t matter who coaches us the next few years, we are going to be ■■■■, but Brad Scott doesn’t just deserve backing in. His record absolutely does not warrant it.

They want change much in terms of short term results but we absolutely should be asking the question is Brad Scott the right coach to develop a very young group. I suspect he’s not.
