HIRDY’S LIST OF NON-NEGOTIABLES RE-EMERGES

Who?

Reality set in after he threw a ■■■■■■■ chair and yelled at them

He just flowed on from Woosha’s approach who really set the club back with club culture (e.g let the players set the culture themselves approach)

Rutten was a fraud wanted to be you mate not coach

Well no is the answer in hindsight I suppose…
But a few players have mentioned Robbins’ influence already since he joined. Maybe he’ll turn out a better version for us.

He did the best he could in the circumstances but no rookie coach would fare any better. Tried to change the culture around but dont think he had the respect of the players

Last year was about discovery and fininding out about the list and Brad was a bit more mellow

2024 we will see an animated Brad loosing it in the box if players arent playing to his standards

Rutten never appeared as the type to deliver club wide ultimatums. He didn’t have the personality type or the ‘fear factor’ element to see it through even if he did.

And, he didn’t have an ‘all of club’ effort to change culture behind him to support his pursuit for change.

Simply Rutten didn’t have it and he didn’t have the club behind him if he did.

Scott has the track record, a more ruthless personality, commands respect and has a new leadership team at the Clubs highest levels working with him to force change at a cultural level.

That’s the real difference here.

Voss at Carlton has made a big impact

Reckon Brad will do the same at Essendon

Voss at Carlton has had an impact because they got Brian Cook into that Club to ensure cultural change happened at the highest levels of the Club and that Voss would be supported in changing the environment. Same as Barham / Vozzo supporting Scott. If Cook wasn’t there, you have to believe Voss would be probably languishing like Rutten did. Hanging in the breeze. In fact, without Brian Cook, Voss wouldn’t have survived that slump early last year when Carlton was under siege.

Thst why leadership at Chairman and CEO level to drive the broader culture and agenda is equally important as the right coach.

Ditto Vrisn Cook & Bomber when Bomber was under review before that flag in 2007.

Ditto Benny Gale / Peggy O’Neil supporting Dimma at Richmond when he was on the block.

Overall Club leadership driving agenda and culture is critical and this is why Essendon has failed for 20 years.

What someone says and what they actually do, can be quite different.

How many times have coaches played an injured player, when they tell you they wouldn’t… and yet they do because they hope it’ll work out… this time.

So… we need to wait and see if he does apply the standards he thinks are necessary and expected.

And the leadership group, and in fact the whole team will need to back him. They’ve got to call out team mates who are letting the side down.

Essendon should replace the bomber nickname with the “False Dawns”, because as fans we’ve seen a few.
This feels like another, though as probably felt before, a bit more genuine “this time”…for the umpteenth time…

Higher profile clubs bring more endorsement opportunities. Their decision isn’t solely based on what they’ve seen at the club

So why are we signing Parish up for 6 years?

I prefer this to Rutten who could barely string a sentence together.

True but sometimes there’s nuance and other factors driving decisions that us fans aren’t aware of. For example, about 3 years ago, Essendon Coach was under pressure to play a player late in the season because this player needed to play one more game to hit a trigger point in his contract. He wasn’t match fit and the coach and List Manager went aligned on whether to play him. My recollection was in this instance he played. Point being, sometimes decisions on match selection are made with more information and other decision drivers than we are aware of that make simple match selection more complex than we are led to believe. Sometimes it’s not as it seems. And these things occur often.

No names and all that, just giving an example.
