Brad Scott - yeah, whatever (Part 3)

Well we’d been criticized for now following appropriate processes in the past.

So we established this subcommittee thing to pick the coach and that wasn’t the right thing to do now you reckon? The fluff articles said the panel shortlisted 22 candidates

Get Spike in as head coach, so we can get rid of this anti-resultist gasbag.

Mark has had head coaching experience and has been assistant coach at both GWS & now Sydney, who were monor premiers.

I heard him on the radio before the game yesterday and he spoke eloquently about coaching.

It is clear he has learned a lot since his time at GWS. And he is coming from 2 winning cultures, one of which chose him as the replacement head coach.

If he brings Solly and Hird with him - so what. That’s his right.

Without the Spike hair I always just assume its Jarrad in the box

Nah, time to break the pattern:

Brad Scott.
Shaun McNernan
Alwyn Davey Sr
Shane Harvey
Spike McVeigh

Time to get the better sibling.

Jobs for boys eh

Do you follow Essendon? It may be standard practice across the league, but it is not standard at Essendon where they have extended contracts of incompetent coaches (Knights, Worser).

I do, you clearly don’t

No, we had the other Mitch Brown. The non-twin who played AFL one.

Defense, contested possessions and stoppages.

We don’t like the competitive stuff…

There is a fair bit of improvement in all that. The efficiency stat lies though. Our forward line efficiency has gone backwards at a significant rate. We need several gun ball users before anything else imo. And we need to work and a forward system that spits out leading targets, which leads are honoured.

At least tackles fall into that category and is much improved which is something we have been crying out for years so that’s positive

Yep.

Unfortunately for the cub that a personnel issues that I think is drafting and trading. So it’s not an easy fix. In the midfield i can see an improvement with Parish having a full year, Tsatas and Hobbs getting regular mid time. But in the forward line its a massive issue with no on list solutions.

That’s a pretty pessimistic outlook.

The winds are a changing.
With the delistings and retirements that have been announced so far and those still to come, the Team will look considerably different next year, whether from a starting perspective or depth.

It will be interesting to see what the back 6 look like and how they play given the Heppel/Kelly dynamic will be gone. Will Brad move away from playing Martin in defence?

Unfortunately for Brad a few things went south in 2024 that couldn’t have been expected or predicted, like 2MP losing his mojo, and Ridley only being able to produce a 1 game burst of form. I assume these guys would have been considered to be 2 key pillars of our program for 2024 and both were largely missing the entire year, whether or not they played. That put pressure on the rest of the Team.
Too much is expected of Stringer, and when Caddy came in, as good as he has been,
You got what you hoped for, but nothing more.

Our performance in 2024 was pretty much buggered by a shot duck backline and shot duck forward line.

I eagerly await to see how we address the backline deficiencies, but if nothing else at least we will see some different guys screwing up next year, and if not maybe they might just click with a new dynamic.

The 2024 result may have been similar to 2023 but the we looked different when we crossed the finish line this year. Last year we were riddled with injury and gassed, at least this year we finished with a bit of fight still left in us.

Brad has his faults for sure, but I am more than prepared to hold off on the final verdict until the end of 2025.
I think we turned over maybe 11 spots last year, so far 6 this year and hopefully more to come.
He is approaching a 2024 where he will have Caddy with another preseason under his belt and the experience from the back end of 2024, likewise Archie Robert’s.
Bryan looked very solid at the back end, so hopefully Brad is prepared to trust him more from the get go.

I expect these guys to be starting from the get go in 2025

The team looks different nearly every year. The results remain the same.

Yeah, maybe, but the departure of someone like a Heppell, can be cause for change.

I am not potting him for being a negative influence per se, but sometimes, the mood and culture of a place can change when Elvis leaves the building.

As illogical as it sounds, it may give others permission to be themselves.

Nah, Hepps wasn’t the problem. The problem is everyone and everything at the club.

Not saying he was the problem, just an element within the dynamic, a tether to the Saga, that no longer exists and hopefully that element of the conversation fades from memory and life moves on … only it looks a little different now.

What difference…. Who knows.
