Certainly “playing the kids” to me this year would have been a few small things rather than wholesale changes. Way more games for Bryan (who in his 5th year probably doesn’t qualify as a kid in a lot of ways), Roberts in for Duursma when he was injured. Maybe put Hobbs on the ball for a month while Parish was out instead of giving Stringer all those centre bounces.
I would have liked to see Hayes at some point, but Laverde was playing well enough for long enough that it wouldn’t have been a fair swap for most of the year. Bringing him in for one game instead of Weideman I think would have been as stupid as playing Weideman was. If they were indeed rebuilding Tsatas’ kicking action, VFL seems a better place for that, so that doesn’t really bother me.
I don’t think anyone else in the “kids” category got a particularly raw deal, and if we’d been flying all year, I don’t think any of them were playing undeniable football in the twos.
What annoyed me was that we only made some of those changes in round 21 once the rot had set in, we’d dropped out of the 8, and our chances were more mathematical than realistic. There were chances to give them a shot in a team that was playing well, or at the very least winning games.
Yeap, Scott has no clue. Was having a good chat about Tsatas this morning to my North supporting nuffie. He is not surprised at all that this is happening. He watched alot of Elijah in U18 and such. Said Scott has no clue how to develop youngsters and they all lose confidence, one of the main reasons North is so bad right now. Him and Noble absolutely destroyed them.
Have you seen the players North drafted whilst he was head coach? Some shocking choices. I actually think he didn’t do a bad job with the ■■■■■ he was given!!
I think you & others are crediting Mitchell with a lot of the list work done before he got there. Getting rid of the Premiership players was done by Clarko & really the only list gutting done by Mitchell was trading out O’Meara & Tom Mitchell. When you look at the Mitchell trade it was for Cooper Stevens who has been a bust & picks 41 & 50 which they on-traded to get Henry Hustwaite - yet to impress.
The reality is that Hawthorn took 9 years to rebuild to where they are. Its just wrong to believe they are only in their 3rd rebuild year.
LoL …. I have a question for you.
Which you probably won’t answer, because I expect I am blocked too.
“Most of Us”
So how many people do you reckon identify with you and how many don’t.
Most?
On what basis do you assert that?
LoL … I guess if you block everyone that disagrees with you then, most people, that you see … agree with you.
Nah nah dont worry. The boys went to the qualifying final, dogs v hawks. They attended the game. Just really inspiring and uplifting. That’ll really put us in good stead because they felt the fInaLs aTmOsPhERe
A one game burst from Rids made me giggle then sigh, so emblematic of our team, there is high excitement for waht Caddy, Duzz, Caldwell, Bryan etc. can produce next year but that is using normal football club logic, at Esendon it’s likely those players have had a peak and will now implode just cos we are Essendon and it’s impossible to trust anyone
Our early season form in 23 and 24 really messes with Scott as he gets stars in his eyes and clings to his vets thinking they’re on the way, his messaging in first half of 23 was great, he then frked it up once he thought we could make finals and made a right mess of things, presente with the exact same situation a year later, he did that again
Slightly then but I was thinking more on the messaging and rushing of players back who didn’t couldn’t contribute based on name, I think those youngters forced his hand too by actually performing to a level straight away to where they couldn’t be one/two and doned as he has form on. If that was his different approach it was still a cluster F mess.
