Brad Scott - yeah, whatever (Part 3)

I’m sure someone raised this, but the laughable thing about Brad is he appears to want to make a statement with Jake. This is the same Brad who picked Jake to play every game this season.

I mean it’s pretty on brand for Scott isn’t it? I know a bunch of North supporters (really!) and this just reflects the way he coached them. Just kept playing his favourites long past their due date as long as there was anything at stake.

Brad “good old rock, nothing beats rock” Scott, I reckon…

I wonder who said statement is directed at?

Yeah I guess thats how I’ve looked at it. Halfway through the year it looked like Lobb was destined to be traded or possibly just delisted from WB until they gave him a shot as a defender & he, at the age of 31, discovered he could play a new role. It was worth a shot with Weid given how much we needed another KPD especially with massive questions over Reid long term. I’m not as buoyant on Hayes as many here as well so I don’t think that decision was all bad.

I just don’t see it with Hayes

He’s been doing a reasonable job and is still only 19. Club obviously still has plans with the 2 year contract. If his early season form in the VFL goes well they will find a spot for him.

I hope you’re wrong. Too early to tell. I’ve liked his development in the VFL however the step up to the big and strong forward lines is different. I’m hoping he puts more weight on over summer.

I don’t think you can just find a spot for these KP size guys. That’s exactly what’s wrong around the management of Cox & to a lesser extent Jones. He should either be fully focussed & developed to play CHB or there is no other spot for him (possibly backup for McKay at FB). We need to find another tall defender to release Ridley as the interceptor & that compounds of Lav goes. I think best case scenario Hayes would be 1-3 years off physically developing enough for that role.

That’s probably why they retain Weid. Weid has no future as an AFL defender (imo), they need depth and backup however.

Not really at anyone mate just another example of his mixed messaging.

Over his 2 year tenure I think he’s talked lots, but don’t think his actions have matched his words often.

That doesn’t make any sense. A backup player has fill in for a regular player who is unavailable, and therefore has to be able to play adequately at AFL level himself. Weideman is not able to play adequately at AFL level, therefore he is not useful as a backup player.

I think the basis of the criticism of scott re selection is a fair bit of exaggeration and hindsight, and much of the analysis fails to acknowledge the reality of 2024. For example -

  1. hawks have done it differently - and well done to mitchell and co for sticking with their plan. cats & swans are both experts at developing younger players in the 2s, and when they come in they are usually ready to go. their development systems have been better than ours hence our increased investment.

  2. we need to acknowledge the reality of being 8-2-1 half way thru the season. you don’t play 3rd round at wimbledon, leading 2 sets to love, and go and pick the shiny new type of tennis bat out of your bag for a change up. the blitz counter point of ‘but I always knew we were going to collapse’ doesn’t fit with the absolute unpredictability of AFL and 2024.

  3. i agree with the development of hayes & roberts. archie is a string bean…a really courageous one…he played 5 games and didn’t get too banged up. hayes is not physically ready in a team that already plays 2 skinny talls (often on the wings as they struggle as KPs)

  4. tsatas belonged in the 2s where he could play inside and work on his kicking. there is no position for hobbs. even durham was pushed out to HF.

  5. goldie playing over bryan is selection integrity. that idea means that the best player is picked. goldie outrucked bryan until he hit the wall. the real question is will we benefit longer term from bringing goldie into the club? it’s too early to assess that list mngt decision.

  6. we’ve put considerable investment into young players this year. cox, jones, perkins, ADJ - all got extended runs in the 1s even when their form fluctuated. caddy, roberts and bryan played later in the season. tsatas played enough 1s to prove to him his blatant deficiency needs enormous effort to fix.

Ah yes, the old “hayes isn’t ready” meanwhile calsher dear is given opportunity and thrives. Copout of the highest order.

The hawks have done it different? Yes, mitchell shipped off the old guys and went purely with youth. Now one team was a kick from a prelim, and one is stuck in no man’s land. How can this not make anyone anything but angry? This club is run by a bunch of fkn idiots.

Goldstien should have never been on the list because there was no way he wasn’t playing

Brad is the worst developer of young footballers i have ever seen. The stupid c*nt plays KPP on the wing ffs. Hey, look at us being all ahead of the game and trying to reinvent the wheel by playing tall blokes on the wing! Theres a reason other teams dont do it, and never will.

But no, lets get rid of massimo and rotate kelly and two low iq beanpoles through there

This club is run by a bunch of idiots. Barham, scott, vozzo, all clearly have some kind of brain/learning disability. Imagine christmas at the scotts? Brad must feel out of place. Chris would just look at him and laugh and think to himself “how am i related to you mate, how is cox and jones going on the wing hahahaha”

Wholeheartedly agree with most of your post but this part is a little mis informed.

Calshar Dear got his opportunity because Mitch Lewis was injured, and he was deemed next best for the position.
Mitchell is still playing experience over youth in some situations.
Otherwise, 22yo Denver Grainger-Barrass would be playing instead of 31yo Frost.

DGB barely played this year due to turf toe

yikes thats some bad stats

Well, Key defence i would assume.
How well is he stopping his man ?
I don’t know the answer.

A top 10 talent barely managing 5+ disposals as a vfl level defender is honestly pathetic,

It’s just over 10 ave.

Out of curiosity I checked Hayes disp ave…17.7 for 18 games.

D.G-B taken Pick 6 ahead of our 3 guys, so not everything Haw are touching has turned to Gold.
