Iām not old enough and was too late of a footy bloomer to understand the last 100 posts and coaches from 20 years ago.
I look forward to 10+ years from now when I can join in on decades past ā ā ā ā talking about the period post mid-2010s though.

When you look at that team selection, defending didnāt look a priority. Baz ball was all Knights had.

Thereās no way Hardwick or any other coach was going to turn dodoās duds into a premiership list. If its true that Hardwick was very critical of our list at the time he was interviewed then it canāt be discounted that it played a part in the clubs decisions. Did we really not hire Hardwick because of his laptop or did his judgement of the clubs position not align with the boards delusions? Remember we sacked Sheedy under the pretence that he wasnāt getting the best out of the list so a new prospective coach telling the club it was years off contending might have gone against him.

We should all go gentle on Matthew Knights here. The past is the past and he needs all\ the help he can get now.
This is pure speculation of course but if itās true that Hardwick was critical of the list then thereās a fair chance Dodoro and heās henchmen would have stopped any chance of hiring him, we have seen what has happened to multiple employees who were critical of Dodoro and the list

The board / club wouldnāt have picked a coach who wanted to gut the list.
Not after five years of hearing Sheedy say they were āone jet midfielderā away.
Knights prioritised younger players and still got torched for it when it came to moving with the times and pushing past the remnants of the 2000 team (Fletcher, Lloyd, JJ, Lucas, etc).
Hardwick would have gotten more out of the team, but still not good enough to hang on to his job. Imagine going through 3 years of prioritising youth slowly improving, then sitting through 3 losing elimination finals and then having a seventh year stinker with a crushing 100+ loss to Sydney in round 23.
Iām sure the club and supporters would hold long enough to let him get to an eighth season to see us win a premiershipā¦

It was all on Jackson, he gutted the Club and worked to undermine Sheedy. Hope he has constant haemorrhoids.
