Brad Scott - yeah, whatever (Part 4)

What do you mean by messed up?

I did say, “albeit in different ways”.

I never felt hopelessness or lost passion for the club during the saga years. Their spirited wins will live long in the memory.

Now, after years of emotional “abuse” (coupled with the trauma of the saga years), with the same problems on repeat year on year, all I feel is an emptiness.

For me, this is Essendon at its lowest ebb with no hope in sight.

Hopefully the focus will be on his gameplan and development of young players. If we’re still going backwards and sideways next year Brad won’t get away with the injury excuse.

Yes it was. Doesn’t mean they were wrong to do so. It just meant that they acknowledged that they made a mistake and chose again until they finally got it right.

Merret has had 7 coaches in his career lets make it 8

Dodoro get 25 years to build a Premiership team.

Brad Scott only gets 3.

The issue is that we are no nearer to playing finals this year than we were when Brad took over. Sure the list isn’t great, but most people’s biggest gripe is that the gameplan is terrible.

Merrett leaves and it’s 8 coaches anyhow.

My issue with the game plan, is our poor list management.

You need players who can execute basic skills at a minimum. Ours cannot.
That’s not a coaching problem, that’s a list problem.

Never seen a coach cop the biggest ■■■■ sandwich of all time like Brad has this year.

I really hate that argument. Dodoro shouldn’t have gotten 25 years. Brad shouldn’t ever have been selected. 2 wrongs don’t make a right.

It wasn’t just the ‘90’s and 2000’s for Richmond. 1984. Mike Patterson. 1985. Paul
1988 Kevin Bartlett. Richmond were always struggle town and before the 1967 premiership has 20 years in the wilderness. After their final roar in 1982 they disappeared until 2016. However watch the 1973 GF. Mother of Mary, I doubt whether any player on our recent lists would have lasted 5 minutes on the ground. Imagine at the start of the game Dyson Heppell going up to Big Nick and saying, ’ She’ll be right mate’ or a chuckling Andy McGrath going up to Neil Balme to ask if he’d like to buy a Fujistu air conditioner.
SACK SCOTT.

So then let’s form a gameplan that relies on chipping the ball around.

And yet so many of our players were highly rated juniors… it is completely a coaching issue. Probably confidence and trust in the gameplan and teammates is causing them to overthink each disposal, and as we know, half a second hesitation can screw you in this game.

Didn’t I just say, I don’t believe that’s his game plan?

This is a major factor. Players don’t forget how to kick a footy, confidence makes them look like they can’t kick a footy.

I remember seeing D’Ambrosio in his last year at the Bombers and thinking his kicking is average and that he missed a lot of targets, then he gets to the Hawks full of confidence and his kicking is elite.

Caleb Daniels was probably the best kick I had ever seen, yet now he misses more than he hits. Is that an ability thing or a confidence thing?

And yet we’re draft first rounders who can’t hit targets.

That was on the packet when we drafted the likes of Tsatas, Hobbs, McGrath, Parish, etc.

That is 100% a recruitment and list problem

What is his gameplan then?

Round 1 we had fark all injuries and that’s the gameplan I saw. Round 18, same gameplan but different players.

It either is our gameplan, or he has lost the players and they don’t understand the gameplan.

A combination of can’t do it and won’t do it.

Which is why they need to go, because it won’t matter who comes in. The culture amongst the players is that they run the club, and if they don’t like it…. Then they won’t do it.

That’s what happened to Rutten.
