Define the strategy with a clear goal in mind and then make the decisions along the way to get there. That’s it. If it means Merrett is traded then bleed whoever it is and get the best deal done quickly and move on. Take the emotion out of it.
If he was coach, something tells me Zach wouldn’t be in this situation
Good grief let’s look forward .. it ain’t gunna happen
Hird was coach when we lost Carlisle
Off course they like him. But him, not Essendon. No favours from that part of the world.
There’s being conciliatory and there’s grovelling
He couldn’t even get the umpires to stay out of the corridor when he was there. He has no connection or sway.
You forgot his best one: “Don’t be resultist”.
Dislocated his elbow giving Merrett a reach around.

..that put a smile on my face after a rough week, thank you.
Brad Scott saying “we love you, Zach” is a like a pathetic boyfriend trying to convince his cheating GF to stay.
Have some ■■■■■■■ self-respect. “We” don’t love you, Zach.
To be fair, club can’t act like they hate Merrett if they want max value from the ■■■■■.
c’mon. What was he going to do, tell an employee to ■■■■ himself at the company dinner? Then turn around and try tell Hawthorn he’s a required player?
Club played the elephant in the room the best you could
You’re right that he could hardly slag Zach off but there is a balance between being professional. He could have said something along the lines of
Zach sets the bar for professionalism etc or 100 things.
He didn’t need to stand there and say we love Zach and grovel like an absolutely pathetic love sick puppy.
I can’t stand Scott and the sooner he goes the better but I thought he spoke very well on 360 when this first broke.
At the Chricton his comments are Zach were cringe worthy and pathetic
his comments … were cringe worthy and pathetic
Just standard procedure for this club over the last decade
Maybe he can join Merrett at Hawthorn since he loves him so much?
■■■■ him off,he is a spud of a coach just like his brother. The only reason his brother has done okay is he has been kissed on the ■■■■ and there’s no salary cap at Geelong.
Every club turns over 30% of its playing group every three years
Rebuilding is a stupid term that actually means nothing. Football clubs evolve, every year, and it never stops. Is St Kilda rebuilding coz it sure as hell look like it.
Desperation has a smell about it
Well to be fair, the club has turned over roughly 70% of the list in the last three years.
Assuming Merrett leaves, and Hobbs and Setterfield aren’t retained (clearly we don’t want them that much). Then there’s only 14 players going into the season next year that were on the list to end 2022
They don’t have to say we’re rebuilding, nusy play the kids and go to the draft.
Why can’t we get 4 picks in top 15 or so with Merrett leaving and then actually use them rather than trade to bring in someone.
I’m all for brining in Humphrey, but he cant cost us more than 1 top 15-20 pick. We need to bring in 4 players with the picks in top 15-20.
Humphrey would cost a lot more than that mate
