He’s like Elvis in his fat sandwich eating days. Can still belt out a tune every now and then but you know he’s cooked. And he still has 3 years left on his contract.
AFL dot com.au have run the ruler over Buddy and even when he does get on the park his stats are sliding badly
3. Lance Franklin (Sydney)
… he’s dropped in several key areas. Perhaps most interestingly, his win percentage in one-on-one contests has plunged from 46 per cent to 34.1. He’s averaging almost four fewer disposals per game, down to 11.4.
Lance Franklin’s 300th AFL game has been put back indefinitely and Jarrad McVeigh has been sidelined for another month in a devastating double blow for the Sydney Swans.
McVeigh had just made it back to the Swans reserves team after missing most of the year with a calf tear, but he has cruelly suffered a repeat of the injury and his playing future beyond this year is now in serious doubt.
The Swans veteran and former captain was at the club yesterday to begin yet another rehabilitation, but question marks now surround whether his body is durable enough for another season.
Meanwhile, Franklin has not only been ruled out of playing his 300th against Fremantle in Perth this weekend, but he is considered next to no chance of bringing up the milestone the following week against Geelong at the SCG either.
It was anticipated Franklin would return from a hamstring injury for either round 18 or 19, but Swans coach John Longmire admits the superstar’s return date is now unknown.
Sydney take on the Giants in round 20 in a cross-town blockbuster, but Franklin may now be forced to bring up his 300th away from the SCG.
McVeigh’s injury recurrence has taken the wind out of Sydney’s sails as they prepare to fly to Fremantle to face the Dockers.
“Yeah unfortunately Jarrad hurt his calf so he’s out for a month. Obviously he got back in and is one of our players that has hardly played at all this year,” said Longmire.
“He’s played only a handful of games so far. He got through into the last quarter and pulled up sore in his calf, had a scan this morning so he’s out for a month.
“It’s very disappointing it’s another soft tissue injury. He’s a pretty resilient sort of bloke though. I spoke to him last night and he got in today and got his scan and started his rehab program. He’s a pretty resilient bloke but I think even this is starting to test him a bit.
“Macca is not someone who sits around moping about it. He gets on with things pretty well and has always done.”
