working out. l was willing to concede that if the 2 teams played in 2000, then that team would have won. They were on a mission that year and nothing was going to stop them. l should have put a small wager on them winning, like my house! In any other year l contend that the 1985 team would have won, if the 1985 team met the 2000 team in any other year, in any other year, l believe the 1985 team would triumph.

As for the 2018 team? Any consideration as to the efficacy of their credentials are more than a little premature at this stage. There is talent aplenty

All but a handful of the least experienced players in the 2000 side had been through multiple finals campaigns including Grand and Preliminary finals.

Since Watson and Stanton retired no-one in the current squad has even won a single final as an Essendon player. Now Richmond hadn’t won one either until last season, but then again no-one is comparing them to one of the greatest sides of all time.

Ambrose has to compete with Fletcher, Wellman, Hurley, Hooker, Barnard and Wallis. The only one of those he gets close to is Wallis and he himself would miss out for the first four anyway.
