Celebrity (and not so) Deaths 2024/25

RIP.

Jeez, that’s a name from the past… Coupe Deville regularly showed up at places I was frequenting at the time (The Depo, The Star Bar, The Tunnel et al.) and generally put on a decent show, as far as covers shows go.

Yeah, definitely a blast from the past.

My memory was that it was called “Andrew Hosking’s Coupe Deville”?

RIP. Anyone who knows me won’t be surprised that I was a big fan of this cover of one of his songs…

“Col Joy and the joy boys “

Today would probably be a gay band. Not that there’s anything wrong with that

I watched Apollo 13 recently. Jim Lovell had a small role as an officer on the recovery ship when they finally made it back to earth.

Margaret liked it, David hated it.

Too soon?

I was mostly in his camp.

I have the same level of ability to hide my disdain about ridiculous opinions as Mr Stratton had when dealing with old mate.

No stars for me.

Really put his hand up when we needed it.. We wouldn’t have had any experience bar Thommo in tests at that point. He also did amazingly by hitting two centuries in that series against India despite not having played test cricket for a decade. His coaching though when our side was crap and needed a bit of discipline was terrific when combined with AB. probably wouldn’t work these days.
Another bloke Ian Chappell hated but I reckon he helped save test cricket in this country ( particularly in his coaching)

The Simpson in Simpson Place, I’m guessing, which is the street my in-laws in East Keilor lived on.

All the streets in that neighbourhood are named for cricketers.

I know I’m lagging well behind here but ~ Flaco Jimenez.

Loved him forever, especially his work with Ry Cooder. Saw him at a dancehall in Carlton many years ago and shared a joint with him backstage. All the local box players (RIP Simon Melia) were blown away and we danced all night.

His performance in “The Limey” is both believable and intimidating- didn’t really seem like he was acting
