I always remembered him as another of the English bats that came to these shores with a big reputation and failed to produce but he was quite elegant and showed some grit at times. Sad to hear of his passing though
Jaysus. A bottle of vodka a day for more than ten years. Surprised he lasted this long. RIP.
You mentioned some great bands there for sure but Sidewinder were a 90’s band out of Canberra
I caught them a few times when there were live venues around Sydney and also at the BDO & plenty of Homebake festivals
Awesome live band
Pretty sure i had this same convo with one of our blitz old farts revered veterans before. The 90s Sidewinder is the one I always think of too, but apparently there was another band of the same name in the 70s…
90s Sidewinder was from the ‘Gong iirc.
Edit : nah that was Tumbleweed
Absolutely correct Sir Humble One
Sidewinder 1970 were Melbourne band
Great musicians, three of three had played with Melb Symphony Orchestra, classically trained. Bloke in the middle played electric violin, and they played at pubs, often as support for Dragon.
Lead singer, second from left now lives near Daylesford and we catch up occasionally for coffee and to talk old man rubbish.
Sidewinder from Canberra in the 1990s. Good musicians as well, played more pop rock.
With so many Aus 90s bands gigging again of late, Sidewinder are at the top of the list of who I’d like to see reform next. Only got to see them live once, at the Evelyn, and they were brilliant.
Nearly every time I saw Sidewinder in the 90’s they’d announce themselves as “we’re the band from Canberra”
Beef.
Was also the guitarist for the Blues Brothers band.
His resume is massive. An honest giant in the field of guitar playing.
Absolute master of the Telecaster.
Had the innate ability to put the right riff in the right place. Rather than dominating wirh the guitar, he enhanced the songs he played on. Made them memorable without you realizing it. He had one hell of a partnership with Duck Dunn.
Next time u listen to the guitar on Soul Man by Sam and Dave, it’ll make sense.
Unlike.
We’ve lost a good one there. A man who literally walked the walk and went out of his way to talk the talk.
On the right side of nearly every issue he touched.
If only his era produced more like him, this country would be in an infinitely better spot right now.
Jake’s getting the band back together.
His work on dock of the bay was amazing. Just sweet emotional licks that compliment everything
Hey, I said Master, not THE master. There are quite a few Tele players that have ascended to that level
