Celebrity (and not so) Deaths 2024/25

I don’t remember Ross Booth, but I do remember Peter Booth, who was one of the ABC’s lead football commentators for years and years. He worked with Tim Lane and was known as “Smooth” Booth.

It was interesting that 3AW, chiefly Rex Hunt, used to refer to Peter Booth and Tim Lane as the Tobin Brothers, and then ended up hiring TIm Lane themselves.

Ross Booth teamed up with Phil Cleary when the ABC was televising VFL games, when 7 wasn’t intersted.

“Ohh what a great kick that was ROSCO”

Saturday afternoons when the only football you could get on TV was VFL on channel 2.

Meet Ross Booth on a few occasions. A smart and personable person with a high level of intelligence. ABC commentary was his side gig as his main gig was lecturing in economics at Monash University. In saying that he was an excellent media performer.

I remember him coming to talk to the seniors at high school back in the 80s. He was brilliant. One of the school captains just rang channel 9 and asked if he’d come to an assembly and 2 weeks later he turned up. Apparently before coming on stage he was really, really nervous and kept asking the teachers if they thought us teenagers would be kind to him.

Pretty sure that Ross Booth was a few years ahead of me at school.

And well regarded, as opposed to a guy who was a year ahead…Daryl Schultz (Somers).

Just had a look at his bio. Doesn’t mention school, but it must have only been one or two years ahead.

Oops…I was thinking of Peter Booth…or maybe someone else.

Doesnt sound good for Michael Mosley.

Suspected to have fallen from a cliff in Greece.

Other reports suggest he got back to town, and only then disappeared?

(Which seems less plausible, admittedly)

Ironic if true as he’s spent the best part of his adult life teaching others how to live longer.

It would be jumping to conclusions (scuse the pun). But yeah I think he’s disclosed mental health issues in some of his shows?

He is still just missing…

To their credit, Greeks are pulling out all stops in their search for Michael Mosley. And its hot there right now with a 48C extreme heat warning in place.

A couple of reports suggest he told family/friends he was feeling unwell.
If he got to the point of suffering delirium (either viral or heat exhaustion related) then anything could have happened.

Anyone suggesting that he may have met with foul play?

Not as yet, unless you are.

No, what I’ve read it hasn’t been mentioned, just curious as to whether it has been mentioned in other media outlets, however the longer this drags on, it’s a distinct possibility. These types of missing persons cases rarely end well.

Became the longest-running character in TV history when he re-appeared in 2022, 59 years after he debuted in the first episode of the show. At the time he was THE hero of the show and the best-known actor, with the Doctor more of an anti-hero mystery.

EDIT: going to that article revealed to me Civilization 7 has finally been announced!
