Celebrity (and not so) Deaths 2024 onwards

22 years (more or less to the day) after David Hookes died from a coward punch…

25 years is way too lenient, just as it was in Hookes’ case, as it is for any thug who coward punches…

I read a book about the Hookes case. He was drunk and mouthing off to a security guard, who snotted him. Hookes died from injuries he sustained when his head hit the footpath.

His assailant was tried for manslaughter and found not guilty.

I had a mate killed by a bouncer in Carlton, bouncer found not guilty.

I remember our club was playing MHSOB at the school ground at the time.

And we were told that the bouncer wouldn’t be charged because of so many extenuating circumstances for which Hookesy was to blame.

It all happened outside the little church my family attended, and where I spent my altar boy years. The curate there was a known paedo who gave a false alibi to Fr Bongiorno after he murdered Maria James in Thornbury. Bongiorno was cleared of the crime after a bungled DNA comparison. Fr Tom O’Keefe gave Bongiorno a false alibi.

Should have been ignored on the grounds that he followed Fark Carlton.

The defence will argue that it was when he hit the ground was when he sustained the injuries and thus they get off.

And the laws were subsequently changed to (correctly) reflect the fact that if you Farking cause someone to hit their head by knocking them out, it’s your fault.

Rob Hirst from Midnight Oil has died.

That is very sad. He was an absolute magician.

Oh man… that’s sad. He was an absolute powerhouse on their albums up to and including Red Sails… After that, his playing became far more straightforward, as their material did. It was always worth seeing what he was going to do live when they played Power & The Passion

Him and Peter Gifford together… WHAT. A. FKN. RHYTHM. SECTION!!

RIP.

And so continues the sad, slow, inexorable passage of another member of the sounds of my youth. Cancer is a ■■■■■.
RIP Rob.
