I get Francis has probably earned himself the right to be an auto inclusion but dropping Zerk seems mighty tough. He was super last night and I’d love to see him get a run at it.
Francis looked sate last week, was not his usual self. Hopefully he is over whatever he has had and can come straight back in.
A big test for us, and the timing is perfect. Three wins in a row, we’re in very good form and our confidence will be up.
For Richmond, as reigning premiers, they should see this as a good opportunity to lift and pop our bubble and reassert (remind everyone if it needed to be) themselves as a top side.
If we win it’s another massive step for our progression.
If we can take it up to them all game and get close to winning it’ll be a really positive sign of how far we have come and we know that next time we can do it.
We get thumped - yeah disappointing, But it depends how we lost and they we’ll learn from it. I think we are getting better each week and learning from each game.
The team can play with a lot of freedom knowing it’s about working to build the game plan consistency, and building for the future. While also enjoying the moment and gunning for a win and the joy that brings to them as a team.
I wouldn’t be playing Ham against the Richmond physical pressure.
That said, Zaka will also struggle.
For me:
In: Francis
Out: BZT
Jones played a cracking game I thought, but agreed think we need that 2nd ruck
Edit: actually maybe not.
Agree with above Langford did it smart and then chucking cox in the last quarter seemed to give us something more, especially that tackle
Out Zackka…
In anyone playing better than him
Tough to drop anyone after such a good win but it’ll prob need to happen
Zerk played really well but Francis should come back in. Perhaps a good match up for jumping Jack Riewoldt.
2MP has apparently tweaked a calf so unavailable. Hopefully it’s not a serious one.
Draper they will want to bring in IMO. Get a game into him before the bye. But also will need genuine ruck support coming off long layoff and no VFL lead in. Tigers are playing both Nank & Chol so we can do Draper & Philips
Jones to get his planned rest unless they think he is good to go again. Or otherwise Waterman.
Zaka was good vs North. Some not so good moments vs WC. I’d still rather him than Ham for this game.
OUT: Zerk, Jones/Waterman
IN: Francis, Draper
Out Zerk for Francis and Zaka out for Ham.
Why drop Zaka for the Richmond game? He was a steady ball winner for us yesterday? I understand the need to get games into the younger players, like Ham, but Zaka has improved every week and was our 7th highest possession winner and he used the ball really well. We still need him.
Zerk-Thatcher was our lowest possession winner and only 2 marks. Not enough to keep him in ahead of Francis.
Phillips was totally out-rucked but was great around the ground but he needs help. Could be omitted if the right structure i.e. Draper/Bryan were to replace him. 2MP will still be out so the door is open for Draper to come in changing at FF. If Jones was to be rested bring in Bryan, an exciting young option with heaps of energy and another tall to keep our balance between talls, mid-size and smalls balanced.
CONCLUSION:
IN: Draper, Bryan and Francis
OUT: Phillips, Zerk-Thatcher and Jones
The lid is ■■■■■■■ gone if we win this game.
What game are you watching?
Zaharakis had 7 turnovers, went at 42% efficiency and was exposed physically on multiple occasions.
On top of that, you’re dropping Jones too?
Zaka should only be played as a small forward but Tippa, Snelling and now Guelfi have that role covered with smith coming back after the bye.
He is a liability around the centre of ground especially when any heat is put on. I prefer Ham playing the role that Zaka played last night. He runs all day and can also play a defensive run with role if required.
Would love to pump these ■■■■■■■■ next week, especially after forcing them to leave their home comforts of the MCG.
OUT: Zerk-Thatcher
IN: Francis
Phillips was good in the air. I could see Draper and Phillips rotating fwd and ruck.
It looks great on the telly. I’d love to go to a game there in the next couple of years.
In Draper assuming 2MP not fit
Out Waterman (to medical sub)
Francis misses out
Essendon to stay in WA this week.
Looks like a team trip to the Hooker family winery is in order.
I’m pretty keen to get a look at the Draper Phillips Ruck duo this week.
I don’t think Draper’s body was ready for the ruck load that was put on him round one and I didn’t like the way we lost control of the game Langford in the Ruck.
Both Draper and Phillips are aggressive and competitive and will give a good contest in the front half.
Nank is also a brute so I’d like to have our two big rucks to work him over
If they still want to spell Jones bring Draper in for him, if not Waterman makes way.
Presume we’ll also see Francis in for zerk.
Feeling pretty good about the tigers next week without Lynch. Stewart to Riewoldt and lav to take Martin when he’s forward.
