Ok, I have changed my knee jerk reaction from earlier in the thread.
Stringer and Langford are both being benched quite a bit. They need to split midfield time and rest up forward more. Hooker needs to spend some time back in defence.
Imagine a line up next week of
B: Saad Hartley Hurley
HB: McKenna Hooker McGrath
C: Zaharakis Heppell Smith
HF: Tippa Daniher Stewart
F: Fantasia Stringer Green
R: Bellchambers Z Merrett Parish
Int: Goddard, Langford Begley, Clarke
Outs - Browne, Dea,
Ins - Fantasia, Clarke
Send McGrath back to a attacking half back flank. week off from midfleld duties.
Debut Clarke help with midfield inside strength given Myers still out.
Fantasia back, playing close to goal, let Tippa run further up the ground.
Hooker clunking marks in the backline. then spending last part of quarter in the forward line kicking goals.
Hooker & Hurley back together, both with licence to run forward and kick goals.
Stringer starting full forward, scaring the life out of the dogs.
Then having a run on the ball later and showing some talent there as well and adding to his highlights reel.
I bet the last thing that will happen this week is Hooker being sent to the backline. He may float to the backline on occasion but he will be named and play in the forward line.
Make us even slower in defence, against a side with 1 tall forward? And even less support for a clearly struggling Daniher?
If you do play Hooker back (and it’s a terrible idea, but an idea all the same) you can’t keep Hartley in, not against rhe side the Dogs will pick.
I’m tipping the opposite. I reckon he will have a massive point to prove against the dogs, but more specifically his old coach. If he can get a early clearance or goal , then I reckon we will see something special on Sunday
Can see us entering this game half asleep… Dogs up and running and score the first 3 or 4 goals…
We peg them back in the next two quarters to near level. Then they (WB) find something in that last quarter and we lose by a couple of goals.
Then all next week we hear about what a genius Luke Beveridge is for turning it around for them so quickly with such a hefty injury list. And how disappointing/spineless we are.
Pass me a bucket.
If that is how it actually plays out for us… then make no mistake, we need to ‘officially’ claim the title of the mentally weakest team in the competition.
As long as they do the exact thing we want them to, it will work.
we can’t possibly plan for them doing something nefarious like use the mismatches we’ve given them to their advantage!!
They went in last week with Dunkley (about 190cm) / English (about 250cm / 62kg) fwd. buggered if I see a matchup for Hartley and Hurley, much less a third KP.
They don’t have the tall stocks fit.
I’d take out Brown, play an extra mid size/runner. Hopefully Fanta (with Begley pushing further towards midfield & Goddard half back), possibly Myers (with Goddard dropping further back), if neither are ready then Redman, who plays on one of their smalls.
I’d look very hard at Dea’s spot, for Redman or maybe even Guelfi.
Tippa’s had 5 scoring shots in his last 8 games, from about round 20 last year, not good enough. Not sure who out of Jerrett and Long is the least crap, but one of them.
Worsfold isn’t going to change his plans after two rounds. Stringer will continue to get midfield time as will Langford. Tippa will continue to play as a small forward, Hooker will continue as a tall forward. We will improve with the addition of Fantasia but the midfield improvement isnt coming through playing Clarke, Guelfi, Myers or anyone else currently not in the team and on our list. Our best group is out there, it’s a work in progress, it needs time, to you know… progress.
Don’t know how anyone can be confident about this game.
This is the exact game, just like last week and countless other times over the past 10 years which for all intents and purposes, we should win in an absolute canter.
However, I think myself and numerous other Blitzers just know that we will come out with a lackadaisical and totally lacklustre effort and barely fall over the line when all good sides seem to thrive off these types of games to put on a show and pump up their percentage.
The Dogs are a total shambles at the moment but so were Melbourne when I think we were 12-1? and they’d barely gotten a sniff in any game at all that season.
I hope to god I’m wrong but this side has burnt me far too many times in the past to feel confident in any match except for when we play better quality opposition where we always seem to try and extract the digit.
