Changes v Cats - round 7 2023

This will be our hardest game of the year, both physically and mentally, after a 5 day break (compared with our opponents 8 day break).

Low expectations but we just need to get through unscathed and then some normality returns with a 7 day break prior to the next game.

ANZAC Day is a great occasion (when we win ) and we wouldn’t swap it for anything … but every few years it really does play havoc with our season in terms of break, fitness etc compared with our next opponents. It’s a big ask for a young list, especially when you are fixtured to play the most experienced team in the league and reigning premiers. The AFL need to do a bit more in this space.

Scott just said on AFL 360 that there will be significant change in the team against the Cats. Regardless of injury

Yes agree ……LAV inj A/C joint ……Menzie out and tell him to get some proper boots and learn how to kick properly ……please don’t bring Jones back

Yeah I think that is more related to management of a 5 day break.

Yep. That’s why he said the changes will happen regardless of injury

Yeah just in case it had been interpreted as mass omissions on form.

Just had a dive in the history books (or site!) about what happened the last time a team was coming off a Tuesday ANZAC Day game and playing an opponent off a much larger 8 day break (Vs 5 days).

Coincidentally, also Geelong, who were sitting in 2nd spot and heavy favourites coming into this MCG game against Collingwood who lost in disappointing fashion on ANZAC Day:

Hmm…

It can happen.

Agree and love but how old is Daicos?

N.Daicos looks like a fairly large exception to most rules to my eye.

Keep Phillips and Draper as the ruck combo.

In Merrett and Hobbs

Out Menzie and Perkins if Injured.

Philips won’t get up after a 5 day break and frankly doesn’t deserve to be named in any case.

Maybe Brad can convince Chris to lay down, just for next week?

I’m digging the tabular display of some of these in/out posts.

Nice level up blitzers.

Laverde out poses some head scratching decisions. We don’t really have anyone ready who can come in and play.

They will do us by 60+.

Also, that same year, after we won well on the Tuesday, we served up absolute horseshit against Melbourne on the Sunday.

That’s exactly what I would expect. Changes because it will a stretch for some to get up off a short break, and changes because we are clearly picking teams to try to counter the opposition.

Changes this week will be almost all forced (including managed) based on how poorly we ran out the game and how short of a turnaround we have. Many could do with a spell in the VFL but I don’t think we have many who are going to benefit from playing seniors.

Merrett, Hobbs, Mass and Hind should be first in.
