Yes, but we have constantly said that our players are mentally weak and don’t turn up against lower ranked opponents. Something Scott has been mindful of too, constantly saying every game is difficult.

Bit of a poor message for them to then take the opportunity to trial our young players because we’re playing against a lower side.

Well that’s certainly one way of looking at it.
There’s nothing wrong with blooding young players, good teams seem to do it and still get the job done.

That’s true. But given it’s an area we have struggled with, not sure we’re in the position to do the same.

Tall side makes me think we’ll kick it high and long into the forward line. That’s makes me nervous against McGovern and Barrass.

That combo was more cohesive than 2MP and Jones

Maybe if Duursma wasn’t back, didn’t really need to bring 2 wings in though (as much as I’d love to see him get a debut)

It’s basically the same as ANZAC day except having Ridley into defence for someone shorter

A tall lumbering team with an under done Draper.

Lack of outside speed and run is a worry.

Cox or Heppell would be ideal Subs ( Menzie or Hind to switch between forward/wing
Kelly to play on Ryan and perhaps Martin forward.

Duursma in is big for our run n carry plus his two way running helps Merrett and his defensive side is huge upside

Hoping Cox is sub but I doubt it. We will need full games from Menzie & Hind up forward.

Duursma and Redman in helps with outside run pretty significantly IMO. None of the outs have really added to our spread at all.

Goldstein needed Draper back in badly. West Coast have gone in far taller.

Main session this week had Martin at half forward in long match sim. Redman was the rebound defender. Sense a switch of Martin to play Gresham half forward role

West Coast game plan will be similar to Carlton’s against us.

They’ll be content with losing the midfield battle, then drop 18 players behind the ball to clog up our forwardline.

Then they’ll hit us on the break.

It fits perfectly with the strengths of their side, with McGovern and Barrass……. And getting their forwards man on man in their forward half.

We must stop their transition.

We’ve got too many defenders in the 23 so this would resolve that. Alternative is for Kelly or Hep to be sub. One of them still might be. But if Martin is forward, I reckon Menzie will be sub

Draper, Goldy and 2MP is a lot of tallness.

Hopefully we don’t just bomb it long to Barrass and what’s his name.

So we’re at this stage going with Draper, Goldstein and Wright all playing.

The dangerous thing is that it might work at Docklands against West Coast, because in that case we’ll probably go with the same against Geelong at the MCG next week. And it won’t work then. Three super-tall and quite immobile players on the ground against good, mobile, strong opposition on a large playing surface is a recipe for disaster.

Wright should be the one to miss out. He’s not really an effective ruck, and unless the ball is delivered exactly as he likes, he doesn’t score. He is not the future.

I’m hoping he’s a late out, with Caddy coming in. Fast, athletic talls. That’s what we need. Not a lumberer who’s a liability if he doesn’t take the mark.

We had those 3 guys and Jones on ANZAC day and it wasn’t a disaster.
