Growing up and barracking for Essendon in the 90s felt like we were at the front of something indigenous players and Longy making a stand against racism.

This has been a shithouse year overall, but there is something inspiring about seeing a team with Iraqi, Sudanese, Lebanese & Muslim and Vietnamese players. This is the modern Australia and it’s cool to show that. And next year we might also have Sweid and El Achkar.

At this point, if you haven’t debuted yet and are healthy, just get a game or two into them. May as well extend this debutant record and involve everyone. Imagine being the only healthy dude on the list who didn’t get to debut. It’s not about winning anymore this year.
