Christmas presents

For my family KK I need to provide a list of five presents I would want, of which I then get one (or something else if the giver has a really good idea). Trouble is, I tend to just go and buy things I want rather than wait for birthdays or religious celebrations to come around.

So in order to steal everyone else's ideas, I thought I would make a thread asking Blizters what they want for Christmas, and/or what they are planning on giving others.

I usually ask for vouchers when we do family KK

What's your KK limit $$$

I'm going to buy the missus a Beatles Frame with iconic photos from a memorabilia store

we do a KK too.  Two people each, meant to be around $75 per present.  Everyone also chips in and we buy a goat or some chickens or something similar for an African village through Oxfam Unwrapped.

I'm a bit limited as to what I can get, cos I'm still housesitting so don't want stuff I have to lug around with me.  So I suggested some indoor plants I can keep at work, or some of the Clinique moisturizer I like.

Will probably get Dad the complete set of The West Wing, and my sister-in-law apparently wants some seasons of Gray's Anatomy and Vampire Diaires.

I am pretty boring when it comes to people who ask me what I want for Christmas.

Usually I'll ask for some type of foodstuff or alcohol, like chocolates, a hamper or spirits (stuff I would not normally buy) like  Absinthe, French Brandy, Italian Liqueur etc and to buy it with another member of the family as they are all fairly pricey.

Giving, I usually buy stuff thru the year, when I see something I think they would like.

Books, perfume, vouchers, aftershave, prints etc. Everyone has everything so it's always difficult to try and pick the right thing.

Glad to see you guys do KK, my family, nup, been asking for 5 years now, but they all keep saying nup.

Although one year we did what Koala did and bought a goat and 2 wheel barrows for an African village, and nothing for each other, I preferred it but they didn't.

How many people in your family?

We have 9 (it's my GF's family plus partners) So the rule is $200 limit, can buy as many presents as you like to get to $200. You can't choose yourself (der!) or your partner.

The "agreed upon limit" is $80 but the reality is $100ish.

In my immediate family there are 9 add my hubbies family, which there are 20 members.

So lots of pressies to buy and very time consuming, not mention the cost.

We limit ourselves to spending up to $350 all inclusive.

You cannot go wrong with Aesop for females.

I have asked for Thomas Sabo vouchers this year.

I don’t really get many presents anymore but I seem to spend close to $1000 on them in total. Ridiculous.

Em, what is Aesop, only know Aesop's fairytales.

Beautiful stuff. Expensive, but good for a nice present if you don’t know what else to get.

i must admit, this place makes great stuff, which women love. its a bit pricey, but the quality is great. they have a couple of things for guys for shaving and stuff.

if you are in their shop and try a few of the things, or if you buy some stuff you can often get some little samples to take too. always a winner.

Thanks Em and tinhillterror, will definitely check it out.

Vouchers are the bastion of uninspired materialism. The lazy acceptance of a capitalist paradigm.

They show zero thought, effort, or creativity, and how little people give a fark or understand the ideology presenting a gift.

If you like someone enough to get them a present, actually give them something that shows you appreciate them enough to fire a few neurons.

Agree with Benfti's post - Buying vouchers/giving money is lazy and asking for them is rude.

Gave up XMAS presents 20 years ago - Birthdays are a different story.

Oh well, I guess I’m rude and lazy then. Definitely sounds exactly like me.

There’s nothing wrong with vouchers. If you know someone likes a particular store, what’s wrong with getting them a voucher to pick something they like from there? It doesn’t mean you like them or know them any less.
