Amongst the denials, Burt showed a bit of regret by acknowledging the players and families were unnecessarily intimidated by the gang of 3 rocking up at their homes with an ugly message at a time when they were vulnerable.
We know what sort of bloke clakko is - his anger, bullying and willingness to use his standing to force his way is well established.
Now we know a bit more about fages and his way of doing business. Not much empathy for the other side, will say he’s all in for a fair investigation but will continuously obstruct it, and doesn’t accept criticism well.
If Lions play Pies in GF, it will be bloody hard to barrack for fage’s team ahead of the opposition coach McCrae who might be a genuine good bloke rather than the fake which fages appears to be. I want fagan to fail because he deserves it.
I don’t think clakko will coach long term at north. There should be no place in team sport for these types.
The report was leaked to the Hun which published part of it.
IIRC Jackson also had access to the report, although he did not use any of it in his reporting.
IDK whether those interviewed were given copies of the report and if so, whether there were confidentiality conditions.
Amusing, investigative journos lauded as heroes in the BRS case, a victory for freedom of the press.
Meanwhile, ABC forced to defend its own investigative journalist in Russell Jackson, while he gets the blame for triggering the saga.
Some media and journo double standards at play here.
I heard a suggestion the new Hawk CEO will come out of AFL headquarters? Not sure if an imposed flunky, or just awkward timing for the AwFuL conga line of suckholes. Will the Hawk’s punishment vary based on how much headquarters like their incoming person?
Probably worth pointing out that while the people in power and with a bit of coin are able to protect their good bloke image…
Could we not forget that, on the allegations we have heard so far, there could be a number of people that have been harshly dealt with at Hawthorn, and who still have not been heard…
From what I’ve read, it’s unclear if the report that got Jackson investigating was leaked when HFC had it, or if it was leaked after it was passed to the AFL. It’s also unclear if it was after the AFL got hold of it, whether it leaked from HFC or the AFL. Or the families could have just contacted the ABC directly if they felt that after they’d been interviewed, action hadn’t been taken.
So basically the AFL is going to sanction HFC for conducting an inquiry (and possibly leaking it) that puts people in a bad light. In other words, HFC should have only conducted an inquiry if they knew in advance that nothing bad would come of it.
As several have noted it’s been my understanding that several of the families contacted Jackson independently of the Egan report. ie. he did not produce his piece based on the leaked report. But I’ve heard more than one communication specialist infer that the saga started with the “leaking of the Egan report to the ABC”. Whether deliberate, ignorance or incompetence is not clear. All are equally likely. Either way is a complete mess.
