Coodabeen Champions

This deserves it’s own thread.

After 43 years the Coodabeens have called time on their radio program.

I’m so sad, it was a brilliant show, an institution

Loved talkback, Massive, Ivan, Digger.

And the songs!

They have been a big part of my life for a few years now.

RRR Sat morning, it was Lawyers, Guns and Money, then I think it was Coodabeens.

And Punter To Punter as well. It was a fabulous lineup.

I loved them, but I must say that they’ve been getting pretty tired for a while. They’re right to call it quits.

Haven’t listened for a while but loved them. Pearl from the peninsula will be very sad to see them go.

A bloke I was talking to in the pub told me his brother in law had a mate whose father knows the fella, and his name is definitely Cliff.

I am surprised they were still going. I followed them back in the days of Greg Champion before he joined The Fabulaires with regular gigs at The Carnaby Inn in North Melbourne, which was always a great night. I was supposed to play footy for the Coodabeens against a team led by Dr. Turf in 1985. I didn’t make it. I had a raging case of the flu and was stuck in bed for 2 weeks. I so wanted to go and play and thought very seriously about it, but even doped up to the gills l would have been a walking infection zone. That was the last time l ever had the flu.

That was when they were at their best. Billy Baxter interviewing Kerry Packer on his private jet was a highlight.
