Does anyone else over buy on avocados, then it’s a race against the clock to consume as they all ripen together ?
Rookie mistake by bltn

Yes.
I buy the bargain bag of like 6 and we never eat them all.
And one is too expensive.
It’s the avocado dilemma.
I really should just pool with others
I also think avocado is overrated. Other than guacamole and putting them on toast what else do you do with them?
Avocado pie?
I buy them when on special, let them ripen, and then cut them up and freeze them.
Fridge them once just ripe enough. This pretty much arrests ripening. If you want that ripening to stop immediately keep them in a bowl of chilled water in that fridge. Pull em out as you need them and never waste another one. A mate of mine brought home a case of them from a friend we have near Marlo. He has one enormous tree covered with hundreds of huge avos in his dairy farm. I guess there’s no frost - it looks like it’s in QLD! Well, it faces the winter sun and is sheltered by a huge shed to the south., so there’s huge quantities.
Anyway, he didn’t waste a one out of that case.
You’re welcome!
Thanks Dave! Cold water trick sounds good
A while back when I was strict LCHF, I tried making Avocado Chocolate Mousse.
Don’t know if I fluffed the recipe…it was pretty awful.
It sounds putrid
Oh…it was
We live in avocado country, so we only pay $2 for about 10 of them. But yes, always a race to eat them. They seem to have a two minute window where they’re ripe and good to eat.
Avocado mousse. It’s amazing! Cacao, avocado, vanilla extract, maple syrup, cinnamon. Blend it altogether and your beer drinking, carb loading, avo hating mates won’t know any different.
Also great to use in salad dressings and chocolate smoothies if you have a good blender
Must have fluffed it see above. Haha
Does vegemite pass as cooking?
Breakfast as usual this morning - those Canadians don’t know what they’re missing out on
You could make good money supplying to some of us in the Southern states.
Out of season I feel your pain. A bag of avocados, usually imported, costs about $9 for maybe five avocados that may never ripen correctly.
Last race was Bahrain. I really enjoyed cooking their food. As well as the breakfast above, I tried my hand at lamb shawarma (recipe from Nagi) and I also made a snack board.
This week I’m focusing on Arabian food. Time to go shopping!
I’ve done her lamb shawarma a couple of times. Very easy and very nice.
Anyone got a recommendation for air fryers/are they worth owning?
I made a sourdough yesterday and baked it this morning. I forgot about it yesterday afternoon and when I remembered it I looked at and thought, Oh no, overproofed badly. But in fact it turned out my best ever. Huge oven spring. I’d post pictures but it all got eaten.
It depends what you plan to cook with it.
It’s mainly great for heating frozen food quickly and with a minimum of fuss.
We use it for cooking frozen fish and sometimes chicken tenders.
Our kids use it for all sorts of frozen food.
As far as recommendations, we bought an ALDI special that doubles as a slow cooker or pressure cooker. We also find the larger container size useful at times
