Essendon Football Club is pleased to confirm Cory Dell‘Olio and Ariel Steinberg have re-signed with the club for the upcoming season.

The pair inked a new one-year deal that will see them remain on the club‘s rookie list for the 2014 season.

Recruited as a small forward from Western Austraia, Dell‘Olio has played 11 games since making his debut in 2012 as a crafty goal kicking option.

The 23-year-old has a proven ability at finding the goals with 11 goals from his first 11 matches.

Steinberg, 21, is yet to make his debut for the Bombers since being recruited in 2010 but finished the season strongly as a key defender in the club‘s VFL side.

List Manager Adrian Dodoro said the pair added important depth to the club‘s list ahead of the 2014 season.

“The re-signing of Cory and Ariel fills two of the available four rookie positions on our list for the 2014 season,” Dodoro said.

“It takes a resilient character to stay on the rookie list at a club and I think that is a great asset that both of these players possess.”

“Both players have shown us their ability over the last few seasons to develop into good AFL footballers and we want to help them get to that level.”

Dell‘Olio said he was excited to be on board with the club for the upcoming season.

“It is great to be on board with the club for the 2014 season as there is a real sense of excitement among the players since returning for pre-season,” Dell‘Olio said.

“Obviously we are building a really stronglist as a club and I am looking forward to working as hard as I can to try and grasp the opportunity when it comes my way.”\\

Steinberg said he was pleased to remain with the club for the upcoming season.

“I am delighted the club has shown faith in my ability and I look forward to trying to repay that faith this season,” Steinberg said.

“Now we have started back at pre-season I am really excited about working with the coaches to continue to improve my game.”

A rookie in 2012, hard running defender Lauchlan Dalgleish has been promoted to the club‘s senior list and will be re-drafted in the National Draft on November 21.

A Steinberg had better make his debut in 2014 or I'll delist him myself.

Mass exodus.

A Steinberg had better make his debut in 2014 or I'll delist him myself.

Why would he need to make a debut? He would be a 3rd tall/flanker at AFL level and I doubt we will be in great need to elevate someone for that position.

Why would they spell "commit" as "committ"?  #unacceptable #StandDownSpellChecker #EvenCaroCanSpell

STEIN. BRING HIM IN.

Happy with Steinberger, getting a new contract, he should get a chance during the year.

I think Dell will be backup for when Chappy is injured, he needs to shine this year to make it onto the senior list.

competition for the rookie elevation should be hot.

Hope things go well for them. The rookie list sounds like a tough gig.

FREEEEEEEEEE AR-I-EL STEIN-BERG…
(Perpetual duty as VFL full-back, given our senior options, must be depressing!)

spot on

Good luck to both of them.

They've called the rookie spots early. Does that mean Pears and Jetta are definitely on the main list? Or is a 3rd draft pick a possibility?

That thread title caused me stress.

Congratulations to both. Hope to see the stein debut this year.

They've called the rookie spots early.

They have to as the deadline for elevating, keeping or delisting rookies is October 31.

Geez, a Special AKA reference. No wonder Ariel is still on the rookie list if the only pop culture references he can garner are of that caliber.

Poor guy.

There is another list lodgement before the draft where St Kilda & Brisbane will need to delist a player each to take all their high picks, so it is 100% definite that they'll be on the list, no.

That being said, I can't see us using what is now Pick 64, why? Because almost all clubs that had live 4th round picks (Collingwood, Sydney & North), have opted to go to the DFA pool instead of using them, I think that says plenty, nobody wants to be drafting into the 4th round unless they absolutely have to, Melbourne's Pick 57 could very well be the last "live" pick in this draft.

Dunlop, out of curiosity, how has 66 now become 64?

There's a pick somewhere in national draft for Daleglish #64 or in 5th round of draft

Im excited by steinberg's commitment and expect big things next year. C Dell is the perfect replacement player if injuries occur to our small forwards.

if Stein gets a shot this year i hope its in the forward line.

what an opportunity it will be, coming from the backline in the vfl to glory town in the afl.

good luck fella hope you make it, god knows you have done your time in the twos.

a bit of advice, shave the locks and go skin head, bring some c*** factor into your game.

And the wheel turns… I spend the first year watering down people raving about the new Stevie J, everyone forgot him or abused him for costing Garlett "his spot", and I fought back all year for his credibility… and two days into pre-season, Blitz falls in love again.

At least he didn't get sacked just as he was getting good (if under-sized), a la Tyson Slattery.

i have been to enough VFL matches and watched him to make up my own mind, I understand sometimes people jump on the bandwagon of some comments and smash some keys on a keyboard but that aint me.
