My attitude won’t change until they make it a genuine contest between bat and ball.
It’s the great thing about so much other sport on tv or live, I can always turn it over or not attend and I just have zero interest in it.
As for taking over cricket they are already playing T10 tournaments OS, only a matter of time before 1 over games
This must be the easiest 300 run chase in history.
Well each to their own I guess. For me the big bash helps bridge the gap between footy finish and start and I really enjoy it.
I just think cricket Australia is years behind as usual.
Plenty of soccer and US sports on to fill the gap.
I’ve tried to get into a couple of times and just can’t. I have no problem if other people enjoy it but I have a problem with our whole summer now revolving around it and having players picked for tests on the back of T20 form
Smith was right, we just had to wait for the mistake.
Wolfy strikes me as the sort of guy who would have zero interest in OS sports.
“Here Trav, lose the game for us”
“Thanks Smithy”
Yeah, top bloke.
Unless we get 3-4 wickets early and thus reduce the scoring rate and build pressure we are ■■■■■■. For years we have had no idea how to take wickets during the middle overs of a ODI with well set batsmen at the crease.
If a team gets of to a flyer against us, like England did today, we have no hope of pegging them back.
We were at least 40 short of what we should have got given the platform that Finch and Marsh gave us.
We needed one of those two to carry through to about the 44-46 over to get the score we should’ve though.
Please someone explain to me why we still play 50 over cricket. It’s not the short sexy form of the game anymore. It’s not the long traditional form either - it’s in no mans land. There’s absolutely nothing at stake. The fans by and large aren’t interested and haven’t been for close to ten years - the only people who go tend to be visiting fans and horrible bogans who only want to get hammered for 8 hours. The ratings are terrible. It’s probably of value / interest to bookmakers and some people in India but that’s about all.
What a complete waste of time, and we have to play four more of them.
Dump the whole format, for good. Make the World Cup 20-20 and be done with it.
I don’t mind them. Still a very tactical game and much better to watch than T20 cricket. I think we will see less of them each year and a lot more shorter series but the WC’s still rate exceptionally well and for a lot of cricketers it’s the pinnacle of their career. Guys like Gilchrist, Taylor and the like still rate their World Cup wins higher than most of their test series wins.
Would like to see some spicier decks around the globe though as it seems they are mainly roads where 280-300 is par where for me a game where both sides make around 220 is a much better spectacle
This, some of the best ODI I’ve seen are on wickets that offer the bowlers something.
Think of some of the knocks Michael Bevan played to save Australia’s ■■■■ right at the death when we’ve been 5 or 6 down for stuff all. Think Andy Bichel’s all round brilliance in 2003 World Cup in Sth Africa, 7-20 and 34* chasing England’s 204. Give me over these mindless boring runfests such as today’s game.
If ODI are to survive they have to have a point of difference to T20 and in this day an age with the multitude of 350 vs 330 games on tiny postage stamp size grounds where clear mis hits travel 20m into the crowd simply don’t provide it.
The biggest issue with 1 dayers for me is that too frequently the result is obvious well before the end and the last 1-3 hours are boring. It happens in 20/20 as well but not as often due to the shorter format.
Very happy with the win yesterday. Our one day team has changed dramatically since the awful WC debacle.
Roy was superb, loved how he went hard early- then slowed down a little when we lost wickets. Showed maturity.
Root was great too, was a great calming influence at the other end. Just pushed ones and two’s and didn’t take any unnecessary risks.
Tye was by far the best of the bowlers for Australia
and for some reason, didn’t bowl for agessssss
And yet Root again failed to convert a _50 into a 100
Renegades must be pretty annoyed. They lost white for the ODI and he didn’t even get picked.
Short also bowls???
Can’t be far away from playing ODIs
who else wants cutting to succeed ??
i don’t know what it is, but i just wish everything would click for him and get it together, cos it’d be great for aus cricket.
as above, i’d also like to see short get a proper haircut first then an aus gig.
What, a 31 yr old mediocre bowler who can slog a few. Blokes like Cutting are the problem of Australian cricket, not the answer. Bitsers.
