Cricket Part II

Doesn’t matter, NSW are guaranteed a spot in the finals. Top two earn semi berths automatically whilst 3 v 6 and 4 v 5 play off to see who faces the top two.

So even when you finish last, you still make the finals? What a farce of a comp this is…

You’re not wrong.

Tas touched up qld the other day. Looks like we’ve poached sandhu which is surprising as he seemed to hold his spot in nsw.
Fun fact; I went to school with Tas coach Adam Griffith and worked with him at a servo. We also once “knew” the same barmaid at a night club. How we laughed.
And felt a bit awkward ever since.

Afganistan and India tied in an odi overnight

With 1 ball left and 1 wicket in hand the indian bat tried to hit a 6 to win it and caught on the boundary. Dumb cricket

Probably had money on it.

Though the question needs to be asked, why was there someone on the boundary

that’s not good

Teenage star Sutherland sidelined with back stress fracture

Daniel Cherny26 September 2018 — 12:36pm

Emerging star Will Sutherland is expected to be unavailable for half of the season after scans revealed he has a stress fracture in his back.

The 18-year-old all-rounder had started the season brilliantly, taking 5-45 in the JLT Cup opener against Queensland.

However Sutherland, the son of outgoing Cricket Australia chief James Sutherland, experienced soreness in Sunday’s game against NSW.

“Will complained of soreness in the left side of his back during the NSW match at North Sydney Oval," Victorian team physiotherapist Nick Adcock said.

“Scans have subsequently revealed a mild stress fracture in the left side of his back, that is incomplete.

“As a result, he will miss the remainder of the one-day tournament, and will commence a comprehensive rehabilitation program.

“His return to play timeframe will be determined at his next assessment, but it is likely he will be batting first before bowling.”

“Emerging star”? WTF?

He’s had at least two Michelles in not very many limited over Games. I’d call that an emerging star.

If it was for NSW, he’d be a superstar representing Australia in all 3 forms.

Maybe he has signed for the Melbourne Stars?

Agree. The kid can seriously play. Bowling is already at a very high level. Hopefully he doesn’t do a Pat Cummins and he is injured for the next 5 years. Why do all our bowling prospects spend so much time injured? There must be something in the way we prepare them that makes them highly prone to injury. Jimmy Anderson is 35-36 and he’s still going strong. Broad also. Never hear of English bowlers breaking down at this rate…

I disagree, he is not a star, nor is he an emerging one. He is a good playing who is having a break out start.

The media throw that word “star” around like it is confetti.

England have plenty of bowlers who break down - Mark Wood, Graeme Onions, Chris Tremlett and even Steve Finn come to mind. Anderson and Broad are their equivalent of McGrath. Some players are just freaks and don’t get injured - usually those that don’t try to bowl at crazy speeds. I think the majority of fast bowlers do suffer fairly major injuries.

Yep, the ones that survive the longest go for a slightly lower speed but more accuracy.

I think not playing all 3 forms of the game really helps them avoid a lot more wear and tear. Australia need to be very careful with Starc, if they burn him out they will be in real trouble

A lot of the problem IMO is how the fitness staff build them up. They treat them as if they’re AFL players and need to be this muscle-bound, big guys. Pattinson, Cummins, Hazlewood, Starc, they are all big boys. Dale Steyn is built like a whippet (yes he’s been injured a lot over the past 2-3 years but that’s due to age and miles on the clock. At his peak he was rarely injured). Anderson and Broad are lean players too. It’s not like these boys are over 30 or anything. They should be at their peak right now and as fit as they’ve ever been, but they constantly break down. Pattinson is 27-28 and he’s another back injury away from career over. Sad because I rate his talent highly. More needs to be done at investigating this.

It’s our obsession with out and out pace imo, but you are right, more needs to investigated and studied as this has been a recurring issue and has affected our performance.

Ryan Harris would have been an all-time great if he had been allowed a fair go

Loved the Rhino. His efforts in South Africa 2014 to get us over the line in the deciding Test with his knee pretty much bone on bone, is one of the great displays of fast bowling I’ve ever seen. He could do it all. Bowl quick, swing/seam/cut the ball, bowl as an out and out strike bowler or just be a miser and bowl dry lines as he did in the 2013/14 Ashes and allow Mitch to attack from the other end.

His ODI bowling was incredible too

Mitch Marsh and Josh Hazlewood will share Test vice-captaincy duties after Australia rejigged its traditional leadership model in response to the Cape Town cheating scandal.

David Warner was stripped of his title and barred from ever holding a leadership post as part of the sanctions Cricket Australia (CA) handed down six months ago in South Africa.

Marsh, who captains Western Australia and led Australia A earlier this month, was always considered the frontrunner in the leadership race to be skipper Tim Paine’s understudy.

But the governing body sprung something of a surprise on Thursday, with the all-rounder and paceman Hazlewood both appointed vice-captains.
