David Barham - Our new Board Overlord

Anything current?

Only a young bloke then.

I have been on Boards and Committees that were all old white blokes over 60, Boards with a mixture of genders again ready for the Pension, and one or two with people below 40.

You try to pick a Board that offers a wide range of experience, and deep skills in key areas. Having expert advice is often critical to making good Board decisions. So ideally you want a Board with diversity. Essendon Board is currently a reasonable mix, perhaps needs more younger people and more females.

What Paul Weston had to say was completely on the money. But talk is cheap, it is what you do that counts.

Guelfi playing coach?

Iā€™d say Welsh angling for the top job on the back of another 2 former players challenging for the board.

But thatā€™s just my viewpoint, maybe Iā€™m wrong.

Not sure if Welsh coming on board represents any instability or disunity

But what exactly does the long haul look like. The lack of specifics is the issue. I have no idea what the long haul looks like. Itā€™s all just we need stability and weā€™ll return to being successful. That doesnā€™t quite cut it for me. I want to know what that stability will result in. How will the stability return us to success?

Couldnā€™t agree more.

Thank god for the clean out and finally some clear air from Dodoro. Seems to me we can finally see some direction on and off the field and some sensible list management decisions.

I might be in the minority here, but Iā€™m expecting further incremental improvements on field with more by in from the players and the personal to implement the game plan and Iā€™m pretty positive for next year (will be exciting with all the new players) and beyond.

Thereā€™s bugger all on field to indicate ā€œsteps in the right directionā€ and more negative than positive.

I get the optimism and hope. Good on you but on field is the opposite. Iā€™m not getting my hopes up until I actually see sustained performance - let alone sustained success

Still love going to the footy though!!

Just like we needed ā€œsomeone experiencedā€ post-saga?

So, heā€™s authoritive. OK. Can he actually coach though? Two years in, and the signs donā€™t look great. All the criticisms at Norf (team selection, autocratic methods, match day coaching) are still on-show. Our defensive game is still atrocious.

Another year in 2025 like the last two (no discernable game plan, abject team selections, handling of young players, post bye fadeouts) and very serious questions will (and should) be asked. I accept heā€™s had to work with the dogshit list that Dodo gave us, but three years of no progress would not be a good sign at all.

Defence leaks, canā€™t defend transition, canā€™t hold the ball forward, pathetic delivery into forward line, players played out of position.

Itā€™s just a dogs breakfastā€¦. Apart from press up what is the game plan??

Leigh Matthews took 4 years at Collingwood, and two years at Brisbane.
McRae took two years at Collingwood
Sheedy took 3 years, so I expect Scott to win us a flag in 2025 or fark him off.

Okay, good luck with that one :upside_down_face:
Iā€™m just a dumb dumb who ā€œcanā€™t see itā€.

No one is saying that.
You need stability in a club to help set up the foundation to target success.
Turbulent clubs have less chance.
The saga period is a good example.
President, CEO, Coaches, Footy Department off doing their own thing which created turbulence- the club nearly died.
Vozzo appears to be in the early stages of re gluing this club together.

CEO that has no experience in the role appoints List Manager with no experience in the roleā€¦ta da!

Depends what position you play them.

CEO Vozzo (as in the former West Coast list manager, player manager, general manager of football and Football senior legal counsel)

Its a fair resume to become a CEO and to hire a list manager

Yep, thatā€™s the one - a ā€œfairā€ resume to take on the role

Cant wait until Weston gets on the board and fills the club up with sheedy disciples. Weā€™re so fked

I must admit Iā€™m not on the Weston train. I just donā€™t see why Essendon should be going back to champions of 40 years ago. Itā€™s not 1980ā€™s anymore. I think heā€™s yesterdayā€™s man.

Yes, he stands for culture, leadership and other terrific attributes. However so does Barham and the existing Board. I see no demonstrable evidence Paul Weston would be any more successful on the Board. He was a terrific footballer but that doesnā€™t mean heā€™d be a good Director.

You either have belief the new regime has made necessary systemic and transformational change or you donā€™t. If you have faith in Vozzo and the footy dept then going to the likes of Paul Weston makes no sense and only serves to destabilise the Club.

Solomon is from a modern era so makes more sense in that heā€™s recently been in the game. I can understand why some would support his candidacy. But going back to Weston would be reckless and senseless and I donā€™t think would help Essendon succeed any faster.
