New Zealand are looking at a new flag to move forward as a nation. The usual suspects are out in force once again demanding that Australia follow suit.

Not as much an issue for me as it was...mainly because I'm cynical about our politicians (well, 98% of them).
I'd rather we didn't have the Union Jack on it, I'd rather it was our national colours...green and gold...and I'd rather we were a republic with an unelected president....ie not the Phil Cleary model.

I hope Scotland vote for independence later this year, just to see the whole thing unfold.
Also the United Kingdom should no longer use the Union Jack as it includes the St. Andrew's Flag representing Scotland. In that circumstance would we replace it on our flag to match whatever the UK change theirs to? Or keep the Union Jack to recognise our history?

Not really. Seriously, all the issues facing us nationally, and people choose this one to worry about? Like nicky, I’d rather we get the republic thing sorted first, but in reality, neither are actually going to affect people’s lives in any real way. Dude, priorities…
Besides, if we do, the new one will inevitably be some horribly embarrassing mess dreamed up by coke-hoovering advertising execs or graphic designers, and will look like a dodgy west coast clash strip, with colour gradients and unnecessary stars, lightning bolts and so on all over the place…

You do realise Scotland is part of the UK, hence the St Andrew's Cross makes up the Union Jack. I doubt they'll seperate though.
Personally don't care if we become a republic or not, however we should keep the flag for historical purposes.
I do agree that it makes zero sense to have the union jack on there if we go republic.
