Hope you will provide us with a full list when countdown ends! Have listened to most but missed many while away on hols… really enjoying it though.
57 Days to Go
53 Days to go Nick Martin
best debut since Scott Cummings.
Preference for playing position would be Half forward flank, and then covering for Wing and having a stint on the ball also.
51 Days to Go
46 Days to Go
39 Days to go Alanz Ezard special was good.
“wore number 43 originally.”
part of our finals losing streak breaking win (had lost 6 elimination finals before that final win over Carlton)
Little forward pocket that new where the goals were.
our current finals losing streak of 7 is a club record.
First (non-countdown) episode of the season will be out tomorrow.
In the meantime, anyone have any kind words for #38 on the list?
I guess its fair to have Walla at 37… but for the excitement, joy, skill entertainment and pride he gave us supporters (in a period where there wasnt much else to get excited about) I would have him in the top 10!
We’re back with our first main show of Season 2025!
We talk about Dylan Shiel’s new role, if Matt Rowell is the right player to target and the history of Essendon’s game plan.
We’re back!
@JonathanJWalsh and I have returned with our Season Premiere episode for 2025.
We talk about Dylan Shiel’s new role, if Matt Rowell is the right person to target and the evolution of Essendon’s Game plan
#DonTheStat #GoDons
We’re a month out from Opening Round and the #DonTheStat Selection committee has made their choices for who’ll be in the 23.
Has Jono or Humey picked the right people to do the job? Listen to the episode and let us know.

Agree that Setterfield will provide a point of difference/help stop Rowell but I wonder if the coaching group will actually pick him.
He was fit/playing VFL in the 2nd half of last year (and in the most recent game against GCSuns)
Hmmmm I’ll run my ear over this later and provide feedback
I predict you will like that one of the sides focussed strongly on maintaining a structure, and then be disappointed with who they had to pick to do that.

walsh made some good arguments for picking draper at 1 and 2mp in the forward line. Bryan v witts is a concern.
caldwell and parish having so little match play under them is concerning and the idea of picking setterfield to play on rowell certainly is attractive, previously he’s been very effective on miller vs GC.
a midfield set up which has durham playing on anderson and looking to work off him, setterfield sitting on rowel and tsatas going head to head with miller could be good far us. Put our outside class in martin and merrett in the two high half forward roles and have caldwell and parish coming off the bench (if fit).
i think such a line up probably squeezes out perkins but it wouldn’t surprise to him picked ahead of setterfield at all. the upcoming practices matches will be incredible important for a few players i suspect.
Walsh’s point about keeping their KPDs accountable by playing 2mp was interesting but 2mp really compromises our front half defense in a way that draper might not. it’s a really tough call and i can see valid arguments either way. i don’t think bryan has it in him yet to go head to head with witts which is another big factor.
I agree with Walsh in playing 2MP against his old team. Bryan will get his chances this year but at this stage 2MP is just a bigger body to match Witts and offers more up forward
Similar with Setters it’s horses for courses and he is one of our few big bodied kids that can block/tackle and support the likes of Merrett and Tsatas against bettering ram Rowell. Plus Parish and Caldwell have had interrupted pre seasons so no point rushing them in for this game maybe just play one of them.
This team against GCoast could work;-
Ridley McKay McGrath
Redman Reid Shiel
Martin Tsatas Durham
Perkins Caddy Gresham
2MP Langford Kako
Draper Setters Merrett
Bench: Caldwell Hobbs Duursma Jones
SUB: SEH
Yeah, nah.
Nah. That dog won’t fight.
