Dons down Dogs - review round 4 of 2024

Two first rounders and Jake Kelly for JUH.

I’d do that in a heartbeat.

Last week sucked, but it does provide an important reference point to try and understand what you’re asking. Same 1 st qrts and then pretty much totally different.

Durham coming in gave the midfield some genuine nullifying and attacking power.

Also mindset and application has to be considered. It should be obvious to the players but you can’t ease off.

Also how we responded to the coaching moves.

I know learnings is a dirty word around here, but there are good learnings from last week and this week.

Keep up the good work
Also none of my family went so maybe they should stay away from all the games

My work here is done.

I have faith in Scott but only trust Merrett in the playing group. Loved Durham tonight, he is the standard the other young players should aspire to. I thought Parish was particularly poor and looked a little disinterested and maybe he epitomises the transition between the old culture and the new one that Merrett and Scott are trying to instill.

I wasn’t really expecting much last night so was genuinely surprised how easy we did it. Loved Harry’s game, that was the highlight for me. And Alwyn showed some glimpses, I reckon he is going to be alright, just needs to string some games together.

They pumped Weightman up pre-game and he was barely seen the whole game, loved that too!

I hope we can back it up next week to really get a buzz going around the Anzac Day game.

Wow that JUH miss to open the last was the sliding doors moment we’ve copped ourselves so many times.

I’ve always called him “Bull”. Duz sounds a little soft to me and this Guy is not soft at all.

He became my new fave after Tippa left and he is filling that hole quite well

Cant wait for ANZAC day now

Random thoughts…
Durham. Tough as nails. I like a lot.
Cox. Some of his lightening fast handballs out of the pack reminded my of Jobe Watson. He is getting much better and I suspect will be a much more critical player to the team by the end of the season.
Jones. He will probably end up as a key CHF, which the team needs desperately.
Davey. He is a bit slower than I expected. As much as I hate to admit it, he is more likely a better player than Hind so hopefully he should keep his spot.
Goldstein. I was initially dubious of this trade, but what a revelation he is. He is a very smart player as well. I think he won every one of his taps last night.
Martin. What a critical player he has become in such a short period of time. He is managing all the play out of defence at the moment.

What a great game, I was getting a bit ■■■■■■ at some basic errors by hand and foot but they never dropped the pressure.

I thought Harry/Duzz/Calder’s had great games, I’m stoked for Harry who has copped it on blitz, his endeavour and pressure has paid off the last couple of weeks.

I watched the replay late last night as I could only follow the game on Blitz :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth: and the AFL app
The dumb ass common potatoes couldn’t work out why Weightman was getting booed by our supporters
One of them later received a message it was from the 2021 elimination final in TAS and the high frees he played for
One said probably dikwad Darcy “well he didn’t give himself the frees”
No idiot but he sure as hell milked them

When they talk about the Essendon Edge (which makes me cringe) last night is what Scott wants. We tackled to hurt legally. We chased and tackled. The focus it’s on the Stringer tackle but there was a few like it yesterday. They were scared. It was great.
