Great to see us kick over 100 points and not rely on Hooker to kick 4.
2 PIES IN A BLUE FUNK
BALL use destroys teams. Essendon went at 68 per cent by foot on Sunday and Collingwood at 56 per cent. One team gave up 53 points from turnovers, the other gave up 33.
The final margin was virtually the difference in turnover scores. The Piesâ mids let them down. Steele Sidebottom went at 39 per cent by foot, Josh Daicos 33 per cent, Brodie Grundy 33 per cent, while Brayden Maynard was only 50 per cent.
Itâs Carlton all over: Poor disposal kills opportunity.
And just like Carlton, the Pies just arenât good enough. But, remember, Carlton has been in rebuild mode since 2015, while Collingwood started only six weeks ago.

Wow. What a day. Iâm maggoted. Iâm âworking from homeâ today.
Go Dons.
Winner
So I was coaching here this weekend https://rockytopsportsworld.com/ and there were both soccer and basketball tournaments being held at this place.
In between coaching my games I would head inside into where the basketball games were being played and watch the game on my tablet.
I have no clue what these people were thinking while watching their kids play while this random bloke was yelling, screaming and cheering at the screen and nor did I care!!
thought the crowd was EASILY 50/50 too despite it being their home game.
Essendon out pressured Collingwood in all 4 quarters.
But oh, no that had nothing to do with it , because Collingwoods ball use is inherently not good enough.
Once again the narrative is, "Collingwood lost the game, Essendon did not win it.
Didnât he have 5 goals kicked on him?
2021 Laws of the Game are easily found on the desktop site. Mobile site⌠not so much.
Google says:
Yes, the 5m behind the mark exists. It was probably added so players would need to choose to go to the mark and STAND, or stay right out.
Note it says ANY player may not enter, not just the defending team, so theyâre ignoring the rule regularly.
He sure did. My family were all the same-âgee that guy looks goodâ. Just forgot the defending bit of being a defender. Other than that, was really good.
Great summary. It was the âall court pressâ that I was most pleased about. Collingwood never got an easy kick.
On the defence, the one thatâs surprised me most is Laverde. He was on Mihocek, who is probably Collingwoodâs best forward, and kept him virtually kickless. Mihocek did get that one mark on a very strong and fast lead and kicked a goal, but he was the one I was most worried about and Laverde beat him soundly. Laverde has been one of our constantly injured crew but I think heâs played every game this year; maybe the switch to the backline and improved confidence will be the making of him.
We could still do with a really big-bodied central defender, but the group thatâs there at the moment is developing a lot of cohesion, which is one of the most important things for a strong defensive unit. I thought they made a real mistake dropping Zerk last week; he hasnât been outstanding, but heâs done his bit and didnât deserve to lose his place. He slotted back in well yesterday.
Agree fully about Walla and Stringer and you can tell they have a lot of love for each other. When Stringer flew for that speccy and then shot out the handball to Walla, who goaled, watching Stringer jump all over Walla afterwards was fantastic.
The kids are looking really good. Archie Perkins is very happy to get right in and under, and he puts in second and third and fourth efforts; loses his footing a bit, but heâll get better. Cox is already a star. Jones still has a long way to go; the club shows him as 198cm and only 78kg, which is truly skinny. He really needs to fill out. Cox is listed as 200cm and 86kg, which is also light, but not as light as Jones.
Iâve always thought Parish was underrated. He was dropped a few times in his second and third years, completely undeservedly, but from his very first game heâs been 100% at home. He had a bit of a weakness in his shooting for goal, but now heâs just about the only midfielder he has (unless you count Stringer) who consistently kicks them.
For me, the juryâs still out on 2MP. Until yesterday heâd been a flop, to be honest: hardly touching it in the forward line and missing the few shots at goal that he had; but yesterday beating Moore for that mark in a fair contest seemed to spark him. Letâs hope he can keep it up, because we need him.
Hooker had a dog of a day but Iâm not going to hold it against him. Heâs more that pulled his weight this year.
Every game is a test for us. Games against FC are always special and this one will be more special than most. If we bring that pressure again we can and should win.
Quaynor did look good when playing in the Collingwood zone. Dropped in the hole to mark a few times and was composed with the ball exiting the ball from D50.
Tippa was just spectacularly on fire; no one would have stopped him
So Kayo do a mini game video. 8mins of pleasure with your morning coffee.
Get a big dog up ya Collingwood
Also bucks looks broken, gone at the end of the year - not sure if he will get past round 15. Really like the bloke and feel for him. Would love him as a midfield coach.
And to be fair, despite what I said, Madgen was on him for his first two goals, which was a crazy call
Top 10 AFL moments for the week. Nothing about Parish or Tip kicking 5.
The AFL are dogs
Collingwood are truely f*cked.
Not only did we put them away (which should have been a 40-50 point game)⌠our VFL team smashed them.
Their list is fcked. Their culture is fcked. And the infighting amongst the club is real.
Yes, at the end of the last quarter Quaynor was shixxing himself at stoppages. He would not let go of Tippa, faced away from the ball, failed to stay goal side, would not stop looking at Tippa, while Tippa watched the ball, but the damage had already been done.
Collingwood are next to norf on the ladder
