LAVs game was criminally underrated, had some key moments that settled us after their fast start. Won some one of ones, became our number 1 defender after Franga went down, kicked a huge goal.
What did people think of buckley moving moore to defence after francis went down? I was relieved when i heard that, our backline was looking absolutely â â â â in the first half and so the pies do us the favour by moving their most dangerous forward out of there
They sort of feel entitled to win, because Pendles and Co have brought home the bacon for them so often over the last 10-15 years. They cannot handle it if the script is flipped.
Not in the lav thread it wasnât
Watched the replay last night and I can see what Truck was talking about re Harry Jones.
In the 4th Q, itâs like watching a playerâs career development in time-lapse mode. He went from being out of position and deer-in-the-headlights to a key marking target in the space of 30mins.
âPlay the kidsâ is a pretty lazy phrase in footy, but geez it can pay dividends when you do it properly and consistently.
Not underrated by us
Good write up. Agree with almost everything you said⌠not so much our midfield having three A graders however. This is still a work in progress and getting smashed by real A grade midfields in Port and Bris underlines that.
Parish was on fire but he was quarter-backing much of yesterday, (Merrettâs role) , and McGrathâs hardly setting this season on fire. The grunt still needs to be applied by Stringer and between old timers in Pendles and Sidebottom, and lightweights in Daicos, Thomas, Adams etc the Pies didnât put up a real midfield contest.
Loved yesterday, but the Pies are poo and weâre still building
They couldnât hit a target coming out of defence in the first quarter but he should have been moved forward at half time. I think that call cost them the game to be honest
Hmm, this is an interesting takeâŚ
Cattle or not, Collingwood were only in the game because of their extraordinary efficiency I50. They were without a stack of their best talent as well and in spite of that scored every second time they went inside 50, thatâs not a good thing and not something to celebrate or be content with. Now sure, with some better cattle youâd hope that weâd halve a few more contests but thereâs definitely some glaring defensive frailties there. We got out marked in pack situations when we shouldnât have and there were some really really poor ground level mistakes where we coughed the ball up too easily and cost us.
Thereâs a lot to work on back there, cattle will help but it certainly wont solve all the issues just yetâŚ
Yeah, actually was a good spot. Crowd around us was 95% our way and made some serious noise.
The only PITA was having to get up every 5 minutes to for people to get food etc. canât people just stay seated for a whole quarter. I cracked it a couple of times
Yes it was the worst pies team weâve beaten but how many times have they flogged us when weâve been decimated with injuries
Thought he was excellent
Or, it is evidence that there was a clashâŚHow many times did we try to hit a Collingwood player and miss the target?
You might want to see a doctor about that.
AgreeâŚI must admit I really like watching Pendlebury, his ability to reduce veryone else to slow motion is remarkableâŚbut, Sidebottom was much more influential yesterday
I must admit i was a litle nervous for Phillips after Pies got the first 3.
But then he stepped up his compettiiveness, Grundy won the day, but Phillips did some nice things, some spoils, kicked a goal etc. And he did enough that Pies didnt just waltz it out of the middle.
Canât comment on yesterday but that was the normal practice previously too. The bonus this year is that a lot more centre bounces are happening!
They were less efficient than us. Having Stewart, Francis and Ridley should make a bit of difference.
Of course weâve got room for improvement
Had a Collingwood bloke behind me in the last quarter say âat least we can keep our good players! Whereâs Joe?â
To which I repliedâŚ
- Joeâs not good, youâve told us that for a decade.
- Howâs Adam Treloar looking this year?
Lol, just set you up beautifully there
