DP3 & Essendon Vs Racists - ANZAC DAY MATCH 2021 REVIEW THREAD

X should be sacked, I’ll day it again he has definitely been told to take a backward step and know his role and stick to it

That’s a fair point. I rate Quayner too, no doubt he’s gonna be a very good player for a long time but hopefully not for the filth.

Yep Xavier is a control freak glad he’s been told to stay back.

You just focus on the sponsors, money, membership etc leave the footy stuff to to Mahoney,Truck and co Xaiver

Some random highlights

  • despite the start, we dug deep and got on top and controlled most of the day.

  • the Walla goal where the ball was out. It’s an Evan better goal because it should not have been allowed.

  • the Pies depth is shallow, no forward line, ageing midfield, they are in big trouble. And they have limited draft options this year.

  • It’s the most excited I’ve been about the kids coming through since 1993.

  • public holiday means I can sit in the brilliant afternoon sun and watch a replay.

They got one there the pies with Quayner

Collingwoods’ best player where ones who are heading towards the end of their careers their effort yesterday wasn’t driven by their youngsters.

Their list is cactus time to hit the draft

Channel 9 showing a clip of some of the Pies “players turning up for work, after their shocker on Anzac Day”

I didn’t see it that way. They lost, by 3 goals, but the game was up for grabs with 10 minutes to go. Inherent in that statement is an implication that Collingwood are actually a better side than the way they played, that they are somehow superior.

They are not. In 2021 their club is poo, their list is poo and people don’t seem able to accept that.

Welcome back Dois

I barely noticed him during the game, yet he’s 8 points off Parish?

either way, great to see hepp putting down some decent stats

edit: and lol DP3 could have had 50 with the same amount of game time.

Maynard is a fine player now, and they would be crazy to shed a player like him at the start of a rebuild.

If they did, they would ask to be compensated accordingly, particularly now they have rectified their player payment fiasco.

That for all the world looks to be out. No more cheap shots, collywobbles.

I was nervous as a kitten for that game, had to go for a wander round the Botanic gardens pre-match just to settle down. I nabbed a good seat in the MCC members, level 2, but in hindsight that area was too old and stuffy and neutral – lots of 50-year members and impartials – and I didn’t feel comfortable really barracking. There was a Collingwood supporter in the next row and he and I waged war against each other for pretty much the whole game. I probably started it by ripping into the umpires early on, then he lit a wick under it all by complaining when Walla got that free for a HTB rundown late in the first quarter. “No prior” exclaimed the Filth supporter, to which I wittily replied “You’re a ■■■■■■■ idiot”. From that point on we just kept sniping at each other.

The highlight was when 2MP tried to slap the ball back into play from the boundary (last quarter, left forward flank) only to see the ball dribble out and the guy yells “Deliberate!”, so I started pi$$ing myself laughing (somewhat overly loudly), and the guy’s wife turned to him and said in an insulting tone, “They’re laughing at you now”. Yes, yes, we’re laughing at you now you fool.

I wish I’d enjoyed the game more but I was really on tenterhooks the whole time, stressing about how we often manage to extract defeat from the jaws of victory and worrying about some dodgy free to Pendlebury gifting them the match. My son likes to imitate me watching footy – he pulls at his hair, buries his face in his hands, starts going all “tourettes” – it’s not a pleasant sight.

For much of the last quarter I felt sick to my stomach as Sidebottom, who’s a ripper player, tried to will them back into it. Just sooo happy when the siren went, and I’m still buzzing 24 hours later.

A few points. I’m rapt Jonesy took a few grabs in the last, was really starting to worry that we were smashing his confidence by playing him. Didn’t drop his head for a second - he’s made of good stuff that kid. Also happy for 2MP snagging those goals. I’ve not been his biggest fan but please keep proving me wrong Peter! Great to see Redman and Laverde combining so well in the back line and my final point: if anyone says a bad word about Hepp they can get ■■■■■■, he’s a wonderful leader and a really skilled and valuable player.

I really think we’re doing this right. Clubs talk about a youth policy but we’re walking the walk. Jones really is the best example – we just keep putting games into him.

On to FC now. We’ve got a real chance to do some damage to our most hated opponent next week and make that traitorous ■■■■ Saad pay for his crimes. If we win, look for me perched above the Carlton players race at the end of the game letting Adam know what I think of someone who leaves my club for FCFC. “Get over it Humbert” I hear you say? You’re welcome to move on, but I will not.

There’s always a first time.

watching the replay

1st qtr pies up 18 to 1. The next four plays

Darcy Parish - centre clearance to our forwardline, ball goes out of bounds
Darcy Parish - roves ruck tap, kicks goal
Darcy Parish - roves centre clearance ruck tap to mcg, kicks to our forwardline, hack kick out to
Darcy Parish - perfect centering kick to Phillips, goal

Reminded me of the short haired version of Hird the whole game, just everywhere, popping up and taking the game away from the opposition whenever it was required, looking like he has his own ball on a string

also, what phillips does that never goes on a stats sheet is really impressive for a ruck, always protects ball carrier with his big frame, always provides an option, always goes the tackle, always flies, always goes to spoil

i really feel we lost a lot of games last year by not playing him when we should have, and the entire year would have been different if woosh kept him in from his pre-season confidence building games, games at a new club too. It was set up and i feel we missed a golden opportunity to build a good ruck/mid team cohesiveness with phillips, and think he’s underrated here, because Woosh underrated him

He’s not a great ruckman, but he’s better than putting a non ruck in that position, and will give u occasional gold

edit: also stringer just took a ball off the foot off Grundy in the centre squared as it came off his boot turned and hand passed and set up a goal, natural as you like

freak.
