Draft Assistance Package

If they did it would have been made public just like north and wc

need a proviso as well that haven’t won a flag in last ten years otherwise no bonus picks.

otherwise will have good sides falling down for a year getting bonus picks then jet back up.

No. No proviso. No more stupid AFL subjectivity. If you’re near the bottom, you get more list options, better draft picks, and help with free agency. If you’re near the top, you get none of that. And then let it work itself out.

If you can cycle rapidly between the top and the bottom, all good for you. You’re not getting anything more than anyone else.

Essendon isn’t getting any assistance because we’ve been too stupid or stubborn to rebuild.

I don’t mind wc getting assistance they are a blight on the competition and really affecting footy in w.a. however, what annoys me is this pick 19 coz it moves us and every club back again and delivers Brisbane a higher compensation pick than starcevich is worth (i honestly thought his career was done after Saturday).

Why didn’t they just accept their request that bringing in free agents doesn’t affect the eagles own compensation for 2 years or something. That would have been easier and not affected other clubs also trying to rebuild.

This is the 3rd year of doing that.

Because it didn’t help the premiers?

Swann already helping them out.

How so? They won a premiership 6 years ago.

They averaged over 45,000 people at home games this year, 6th in the league.

Not true!

That is just ONE of the many things the AwFL punishes.

Yep, this!

That is why Vlad got us to be the scapegoats and take the fall for the Premiership winning clubs that were taking PEDs.

Tv ratings in w.a for the afl are appalling, they are producing no draft talent, their women’s football is pathetic and they just got past by QLD for participation. This has been a trend across a number of years and for what’s meant to be footy’s second strongest state, it’s worrying. All under the watch of W.A based afl chairman Richard Goyder by the way.

2023 we went 3-7 after the bye. The eagles and north won 3 games all year.
2024 we went 3-7 after the bye. The tigers won 2 games all year, and north 3.

For us to be in the assistance conversation, those exact same 3-7 records would need to be the good half of our seasons. It’s a disappointing and frustrating fall away for supporters, but it’s not embarrassing to the league in the slightest.

The second half of 2025 was real, actual, proper ■■■■ team behaviour. If we reproduce that for all of next year and a decent chunk of the year after, then we’ll be a problem.

Good to see the AFL support Brisbane with the Draft Assistance Package.

Their Equalisation policy is going along swimmingly.

What has the AFL given them?

If it is about Starcevich then that is a trade and a pick in 20’s (after all things have settled and it will be after our Draper pick) then that isn’t a terrible free gift trade. He is a 2 time premiership defender and a decent player and only 26.

In directly.

WCE asked to be exempt from a penalty for recruiting Starcevich as a FA.

Instead the AFL gave them a pick, which they can use to trade.

Consequently, that Pick will go to Brisbane, who should have got nothing, and Starcevich to WCE.

It’s professional sport, not Auskick where everyone gets a ribbon. Not everyone gets a turn just because it’s been a while. Premierships are supposed to be earned through good recruiting, smart list management and strong coaching — not handed out by the AFL with bonus picks.

How about we stop with “compensation” altogether and finally have an uncompromised draft. Start there.

When was the last time that happened I wonder?
Straight 1 - whatever ladder it was.

Because that would do zilch for equalisation.

Our draft assistance package would have been Band 1 for Draper but we shanked the paperwork and won’t even get that.

We should ask for extra rookie spots on the basis of our injury toll
