I’m not familiar with Indian whiskies. Good bang for buck?

Being totally honest, never tried one, but there are a couple that have good reputations. Paul John, Amrut, Rampur and Godawan all seem to be the go to quality brands. Funny fact, the worlds best selling whiskey by volume is Indian, specifically McDowell’s. Apparently tastes like absolute crap though.

This is the wife’s drink of choice at the minute.

It’s not for me, it smells like you’ve just done a 18hr shift at a bushfire and tastes the same. Far too smoky and peaty for me

Must admit, this one is on my wish list, but hard to justify when I have a liquor cabinet overflowing with whisky, whiskey and bourbon.

Try Black Dog. I lived in India for a few years and it was pretty much ok and reasonably priced. That said, it might have been a Scottish one rebadged.

There’s been similar re-labeling here in Japan for years too, I believe it’s now more tightly regulated and they have to stipulate now.

Doesn’t really matter TBH. It’s a gift for a mate who doesn’t really have a preference aside for whisky that isn’t too peaty/smoky.

I might suss out that Redbreast though.

Whisky exchange is a good website which gives flavour profiles - one being strength of smoke/peat on a scale of 1-5. Of course, you can also just ask your bottle-o attendant.

Clynelish 14 would be my pick.

Picked up a bottle of this in Japan last year and finally cracked it over the weekend.

Smoky for a Japanese whisky (so not really smoky at all haha) it’s still quite light and citrusy with a slightly bitter finish. It’s good neat but found it really opened up when I added a little water.

I’m hooked on Yamazaki (and Hibiki and Hakushu) highball can varieties of late. 800 yen or so for a smooth tasty 9%er. About the only way I can afford to taste them these days :joy:

I’ll have to keep an eye out next time I’m there - don’t think I’ve seen yamazaki cans.

Been giving this a go when I feel like a highball. Not bad at all and not super pricey either.

I hear ya. On a hot day gin lime & tonic or soda is bloody good. Gordons is nice. Tanquery no.10 is way too expensive for me. But Bombay Sapphire i like :+1:.
