Dustin Martin is Chopsticking with Richmond

Who gives a fark?

Me, cos thereā€™s more than enough history with this bloke to put him in Barwon as Her Majestyā€™s guest for a while, and he wouldnā€™t be playing many games in the red & black while heā€™s there.

And what, Caro is the one thing keeping him from jail right now?

Thereā€™s plenty who said the same rubbish about Swan - a Premiership & Brownlow laterā€¦

He has been shielded from accountability by the AFL/media mafia. Quite a number of incidents have been made to go away. Caro and KB are key among the Richmond people who have helped in this process. The AFL wants Richmond to have on-field success. They do not want us to. Martin is Martin, guy is a meathead who is used to being a protected species. Heā€™s not going to change just cos he comes to essendon, even if we ask nicely. We move him away from Richmond, away from the team of minders whoā€™ve spent years keeping him out of public trouble? We give a couple of media people who really hate EFC and know all the dirt on Martin motivation to spill it, we deserve everything we get.

Martin is what he is. Heā€™s lived in a bubble that has so far protected him from the consequences of his actions. If he comes to EFC, I suspect heā€™ll be startled when that bubble pops, and exciting new vistas of opportunity in the licence plate manufacture and orange jumpsuit modelling industries open up to him.

Iā€™m confident if we donā€™t add 1 x elite mid we will make finals next year.

Jobe stays on for another year, heā€™ll freshen up mentally in the off season and will still contribute to our team next season in some form.

How do you think Swan would have gone at a club without Eddie fronting it? He beat a guy into permanent brain damage, remember, then bargained the penalty down to a fine and didnā€™t pay the fine.

The rules are different for clubs with clout in the media or in AFL circles. EFC has neither.

You realise sheā€™s a gossipy sports journo, yeah? Sheā€™s not the Governor General.

So, youā€™re saying that Caro and KB can make criminal charges disappear? Like, Dustin Martin commits a crime, but Caro makes a phone call and itā€™s all sweet? But if Dyson Heppell did the exact same thingā€¦ Itā€™s all over?

Some far out stuff there HM.

Of course she canā€™t make charges disappear. But the AFL can (and does), assuming nobody in the media makes too much of a stink. And generally what Caro says goes in the Ages footy coverage.

And if she starts publishing that no one will ask questions?

Are they??? Are you assuming Swan would have been jailed had he played for say the Dogs? I have no issue with the idea that high profile people in general usually get better treatment but I donā€™t nessearily buy the position itā€™s just a few clubs. Would Hurley have been jailed had he played for another club?? If itā€™s just the clubs that are higher profile then surely we qualify anyway.

No, only the police can make charges disappear, not even the AFL has that level of ability.

It wasnā€™t that long ago Iā€™d have agreed with you.

Now I just find the thought naive.

And having lived with someone who works for the public authority, can 100% confirm that the AFL does do that & regularly

Theyā€™d certainly pay for better lawyers.

Anyone who thinks that being an AFL player does not provide a degree of immunity to prosecution is welcome to explain how NOBODY from the Weagles side 2002-07 were charged with drug offences until Cousins went completely off his tree and people started dying and it all became a bit too hard to keep quiet any more.

Cops like a brush with fame as much as anyone else & the AFL is very good at using that to keep embarrassing stuff out if the papers. When they want to.

Pretending otherwise is utter crazypants.

Iā€™m sure AFL players get away with more (generally petty) crimes than Joe Average, but surely a lot of that is the simple fact that the players/clubs have plenty of money and can therefore afford legal representation thatā€™s well beyond the reach of the average person?

Having Club benefactors with deep pockets helps a lot too.
