Dustin Martin is Chopsticking with Richmond

The funny thing is I heard over the weekend from extended family with Carlton connections that we are into Martin, big time.

I had no way of validating the info (but will try again when I next catch up with the extended family member) and it does fly in the face of what every one else “in the know” seems to be saying.

Personally, I think Martin is gone and the media reports last week Richmond upping their offer to him to 1.2M/year seemed to me like closing the stable door after the horse is bolted.

The only question is, where does Dusty go?

My personal opinion is that he will end up at Sydney and there’ll be a complicated trade involving all/any of Zac Jones, Sam Reid and Kurt Tippett plus Sydney’s first round draft pick.

I could understand the resistance to Lever being targeted if it was seen as an ‘instead of’ decision over midfielder ‘X’ -I am right on the trade/grab a young midfielder wagon. However what does fit with the story is Lever’s age demographic. If the club are playing at a long game in terms of sustained success, well he gives us valuable time post Hooker (and maybe Hurley?) to keep an A-grade spine around Daniher and the cluster of youth below him.

Let’s hope there are multiple avenues by which we are planning to upgrade and accelerate our list build, but you don’t turn down the opportunity to lure a long term investment of Lever’s class.

While I don’t disagree with what you’re saying I think expecting us to land Lever & the gun mid promised in the dead sea scrolls in the 1 off season is just too fanciful to entertain at this stage.

The other problem is that Lever will definitely cost a lot. Our first round pick as a minimum. Which at the moment I would hope is completely set on being a midfielder of some type (or a flanker who is expected to play midfield ).

on last efc podcast, they ask Woosha if he would take Lever or McGovern from crows - he said he knows the older West Coast McGovern so hes from a good family but Lever was special and a very good backman from a young age and he had more involvement with Lever than McGovern.

Martin’s manager saying he could make a decision in the week between Round 23 and the finals. I can’t see him announcing that he will leave in that time, so if by that stage he hasn’t agreed to stay at Punt Rd then if you’re a Tiger fan you’d be a little concerned.

It seems sort of strange to wait that long and then make the decision at the start of the finals. That could derail their finals campaign if he says he is leaving.

Surely he would know now what his thoughts are?
