Eddie Park

Check out the next bone head idea from Eddie in the Herald Sun. Essentially bulldoze Etihad Stadium, flog the land off, bulldoze Hisense arena, put Richmond station and Olympic boulevard in a tunnel. All to put a 60,000 seat stadium opposite the G.

Oh and merge the MCC and AFL memberships and let all the current MCC member waiting list join to pay for it.

Dumbest idea ever, still trying to work out what angle he is pitching that will either benefit Collingwood, himself or his mates.

First coming to mind are.

  • New Collingwood training facility paid for by the govt
  • Cheap land from Etihad stadium they will get for development
  • Already own some docklands asserts that are not going well due to the stadium blocking traffic.

Either way it’s not a good idea for clubs, fans, or even melbourne.

I might be stating the obvious here, but I think the rationale behind this, & the only reason it even got mentioned , is the increased value of the land Etihad sits on. Did I hear it’s worth 4 times as much now, as the Stadiums worth/cost??

If so, the AFL are only working on gaining ownership early, so they can flog it before the Melb Sydney property bubble bursts, … which looks inevitable. But where FatEd suggests putting another stadium is daft, for all the mentioned reasons. He clearly has some gain in mind for him and the Crims.

Eddie is so farking transparent its ridiclulous.

“What’s that? Moving Hisense Arena won’t work? Well you know, Collingwood just happens to own a piece of land right next to it that you can buy if you like…”

Own?

Funded by the government so much they had millions in grants they couldn’t spend, while we couldn’t get a grant which would help house the Paralympics Federation.

Build it on top of the MCG so the MCG is now indoors as well and the new stadium is now a rooftop stadium which makes it super-boutique.

Bulldoze Etihad so we can build the last 40,000 eight square metre apartments that Docklands needs to finally be classified a successful and vibrant suburb.

Move Hisense Arena on top of the Richmond rail yards with the rail lines running alongside the arena floor so you don’t even have to get off the train to attend the event.

More apartment towers on Gosch’s Paddock so instead of worrying about parking at the precinct you can just move there.

Sell Waverley again and use the funds to subsidise a free pie every quarter for everyone who goes to the new rooftop stadium, and to expand Gillon McLachlan’s tie collection.

Build a second rooftop stadium on top of Princes Park. Make it rectangular, and never let the A-League use it. Just have it there unused to assert dominance.

Demolish the apartment towers on Gosch’s Paddock from earlier, and move Hisense Arena there instead. Replace the rail yards with a car park for Fed Square. Fed Square is now easy to drive to so more events can be held there (additional rooftop stadium opportunity).

Run the train lines past the rooftop stadium on the MCG so again you don’t have to get off the train to watch the footy.

Build a new stadium in Docklands to cater for the growing population there (make it underground so future rooftop stadium expansion is possible).

Post of the year.

And too bad for anyone living west or North of of the city/Geelong.

Let me guess, it’ll be sold as great for fans, the clubs will make millions etc. then down the track we will find out everyone’s actually getting screwed.

Bar companies owned by members of the AFL Commission, Bastion and of course Eddie.

Build it inside Eddie’s brain, there are large tracts of unused space right there.

You can also use all of his chins as a multi-level carpark.

Problem solved.

Back to the future.

Rebuild the East Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Think of the heritage of 8 premierships, Thurgood, Fitzmaurice, Busbridge etc.
Reclaim the parkland.

A few residents will be relocated but the Australian Open will be safe.

Also ensure any stadium or appartment block you build has absolutely zero parking.

If you’re putting the new one on top of the MCG it has to be inverted, the gravity inside the stadium also, so you can watch two games at once. Something like this:

Just renovate edinborough gardens. Tram right next door, train is 4 minutes away, walking distance to city.

Has “Sarah” phoned in yet to endorse Eddie’s idea?

Afl hq is right there next to etihad

Ed may onto something when he says bulldoze the joint

Bulldoze the casino and put it there.

Will the AFL profit from selling the land when they gain ownership (buy it out early)?

Is it cynical of me that I look at this and start to wonder what Eddie is trying to deflect attention from? Is something going on at Collingwood that he's trying to distract everyone from discussing?

What that they’re a bunch of snap tooth ferals that leave busted white goods in their front yards?
Property lowering filth. They can get to ■■■■.

Just what this state needs. Another sport stadium. What a waste.

Build a stadium that circumnavigates the MCG
Would you need two security walls around that, one for each ground?

What we need is a 50k seater, with a roof, adjacent to a city loop train station so it is easily accessed. It would be perfect.
