The club can’t keep jumping at shadows every time a quality coach becomes available.
We havent had a quality coach since Thompson
This isn’t mentioned enough. They have ■■■■■■ up big time.
The moment Longmire says he wants to coach again I can see the club knifing Brad in the back it’s how we operate.
Rutten had many of the same players in the finals in 2021, many of them playing career best footy. He was then sacked before the end of the following season. Brad has achieved nothing close to that, and for some unknown reason he gets leeway that wasn’t afforded to Rutten.
And IDGAF what people say about this. Facts are facts.
We were beginning the rebuild under Rutten, after we had that group of key players leave. That is as clear as day.
Youngest most inexperienced team in the league, year 1 we scrape into the 8 with our best % in well over a decade. Year 2, they tried to change a little too much, didn’t go to plan, drama ensured.
Barham’s faction didn’t want a rebuild at the time and wanted a more experienced coach to get more out of the list, hired Brad, everything that was being done game day wise gave a win now approach, that failed, now we’re being sold some long-term vision of which I still don’t understand.
I am glad with some of the clean out we got, I am glad Dodo is gone, and the extra resources put into the football department. But every single bit of that could have been done under Rutten, every single bit of it, and we’d be heading into Year 5 2025 of that rebuild now, and who knows where that may have led us.
But instead of that we got 2 years of a I think this list can do something now so lets try to make something happen right now. That failed.
But I’ve mentioned Rutten, so that’ll set off a few here.
Time to get out big ■■■■ Brad for someone’s who’s name is legitimately slang for a giant ■■■■
2 years too late but at least now the club has reliased this
I think Barham’s take is that I did what was necessary, so now let’s see how things develop with new settings. We know the players speak about wanting stability. They have the benefit of some inside knowledge, though I am not saying they are oracles given their performance levels.
Barham and MVG both speak about having pushed the external review. I think that also is a tick for them.
Solly is a strange candidate in that he doesn’t want to change much except transparency.
Weston is the “blow it up” choice. It is easy to suspect a Dodoro/Sheedy sympathy without identifying any direct link.
Paul Maxfield is about being the member’s voice and winning a flag.
Well done to each one for having a go at a volunteer position and years of guaranteed criticism and scorn.
To be honest there is precious little policy debate or proposals from anyone. As with Brad Scott, I am often disappointed hearing Dave and Mel speak. They all seem a little tone deaf in their generalities and are at their best when giving specific examples. Barham talking about News contacts opening up leadership contacts in the US and MVG on working with AFLW at least give us something. When they go on about loving Essendon as much as Lindsay Tanner it’s OK, though it could be seen as bagging Dorothy Hisgrove too.
Our coach blames the evenness of the comp to excuse losing at home to a GC side coming back from a Perth loss. He blames amateur standards and keeps playing the unprofessionals. Our Pres says it is hard for Brad to do pressers and don’t worry he’s really angry when we lose. Our push for more MCG games failed. Barham says Dodoro can stay as long as he wants then he’s out the door with a fair work claim. The board oppose constitutional pokie criticism because they’re doing so much to address the matter but they can’t quite talk about that yet.
It is not a sterling record, and this is only from the last few months. However we now have Rosa and an encouraging draft, fitness is improving, we are addressing psychological issues, reasonable players are staying and poorer ones getting cut.
On balance I would stay the course, particularly given the alternatives. It is tempting to vote one current and one new just to keep the Board attentive.
You don’t rate the list yet expect Brad to get better results?
IMO Brad has tried to get the best out of the list for the last 2 year by playing experience over youth and it has illustrated the list isn’t up to it.
Now the club has decided to go the youth track (youngest list in the league if Goldy taken out).
Last 2 years has been pretty much a waste on field but I think improvements have been made culturally/professionalism within the playing group lead by Scott (Prior mention in his interview how impressed he was)
Next season to see full club alignment Brad must play youth over experience where in positions that have competition i.e
Bryan to play over Goldy
Tsatas over Shiel
Reid/Hayes over Lav
If that happens then we know the club is aligned in the list refresh and Brad should get his full term.
Is this the Essendon version of Trump vs Harris
My only question is Barham Trump, Harris or Elon?
this, plus appointing thorburn = untenable. think about the kind of internal backlash the board must have got to reverse that appointment less than one day later
is there any basis at all to the “they’ll bring sheedy/dodoro back” speculation for other candidates?
At least he was removed quickly the old regime would have been like stuff everyone and kept Thornburn
They sacked the guy who played finals in his 1st year, and replaced him with a failed former coach who did less with the same players. And now they are trying to move the goalposts.
They should all be gone.
Yeah and Brad had us sitting top 4 for half a season.
We scraped into finals under Rutten doesn’t that go against what fans don’t want?
You’re being a resultist!
Biden: Barham, already talking about moving aside, awkward with media
Trump: Weston, about as old as Barham but angrier
Harris: Solly, “I would not do anything differently, vote for me!”
Walsz: MVG “I am a veteran of Windy Hill- steady as she goes”
RFK: Maxfield “Could I be worse than the rest?”
‘Mumbles’ Rutten was appalling, coaching record appalling.
Down there with Knighter.
Facts are indeed facts.
