Good call, its important the CEO and their team feel empowered and the board doesn’t overstep their role - we don’t want to end up with an organisation like what Collingwood had with Eddie McGuire where the board have too great a role in day-to-day operations. The board needs to stick into its lane - but where that lane sits in governance and strategic direction - the comms and feedback can be better
Voting is now open and we should have received our emails with the details from CorpVote ![]()
For all the derision the board gets, there are only about 100 posts here since announcement of candidates. If you want to get rid of pokies, if you are worried about corporate governance, or if you are worried there are too many corporate types, you have a few options.
I am a little disappointed that every candidate is basically involved with corporate governance (including state government). I guess if you’re not into politics at some level you don’t run for this stuff, but when I hear “grass roots” claims I start thinking of the canteen and training helpers. These candidates have a whiff of Graham Richardson and Christopher Pyne.
Im surprised someone here hasn’t used Blitz as a platform to take a run at it.
There was a certain D Barham at one point…
I will be voting for the incumbents, Welsh and O’Sullivan.
The Club now is on a much more promising path. The Board works well together and I think the Club is in a strong position moving forward.
O’Sullivan is an advocate for removing the Pokies.
O’Sullivan and Welsh for me.
That is not nice at all. All EFC Board candidates deserve much more respect than that.
I’m not surprised at all.
I think there’s a pretty decent barrier that has reduced the chances of that happening.
Your real name and identity will be exposed. And I think what people post here are not exactly something they’d like their workmates, friends and family to see. And vice versa.
A high majority of people who post here would prefer to remain anonymous.
Yet she was Director and CEO at Pegasus Leisure Group, which operate pokies at many venues, owned by the Melbourne Racing Club which only exists for gambling, and still a Board Member at Moonee Valley Racing Club.
Reckon it is time to rid the Board of the Public School kids like O’Sullivan, who has bought very little to the Board in her nearly nine years.
I reckon we should rid the board of private school kids.
Might remove of this whole sense of entitlement of everything will come good because we are (were?) a wealthy club.
Yes, that’s true. On balance, I’d prefer a candidate the Club objectively thinks will add value.
As I said, the candidate list was disappointing overall.
Could you show me where she actually said that? If she did, was there a pathway and timetable?
How do you know what she has or hasn’t brought?
Because Bluey, I am old and wise and know everything with a still functioning brain.
And I have two working eyes unlike you, so I also see everything.
Not much else is functioning as it did but I get by.
Do not think that is fair as well. At least we have choice and all are at least Bomber Supporters unlike at least one current Director. There is a range of ages, men and women, and all have relevant experience.
Why don’t you put your hand up ? Even though you are Gold Coast white-shoe brigade, I am sure with your history have something to offer.
Don’t have a pathway or timetable. No doubt it will be when footy turns around and the club demonstrates it is profitable with its football operations again. Until then, no candidate for the Board should be driving the club to divest from Pokies and thus a candidate pushing for an exit in the current timeframe is putting the clubs best interests at risk imo.
A decade ago I considered joining. I was informally asked if I’d be interested but I didn’t want my joy of watching the Bombers to be potentially degraded by the trials of being tasked with managing the club as a Director. I decided best to keep business and pleasure separate. I don’t regret it tbh, I was getting joy from being a coterie member, sponsor, volunteer, member and fan.
I don’t have ambitions to join the Board now. I’m yesterday’s man in EFC powerbrokers circles. You have to keep in touch with the Jonses and I haven’t done that the last 2/3 years. I had my time, loved my involvement but have moved on…
So what have you seen? Been at the Board meetings, have you?
Never been that fly on the wall but others I believe have.
So is this another of your hearsay on hearsay assertions? Somebody told you that somebody on the board had told him or her that O’Sullivan …..
