On the other hand we could have all positions elected and have a board entirely composed of ex players.

We now have 6 of 10 board members who joined the board post Barham’s coup.
Of the other 4:
- Barham faced election last year and this is his final (3 year) term.
- Muir’s term expires this year and is his final term.
- O’Sullivan will soon reach the limit of 6 years as an appointed director and will have to run for an elected seat this year.
- Hisgrove has an appointed position, which was extended last year through to 2027 where she’ll have to run for an elected seat if she’s to stay on the board.
Andrew Welsh will also be up for election this year.
In filling the 10 seats, it also means that one of the first published recommendations of the external review, having a First Nations board member, is no longer being implemented. Well I say no longer, but it’s been 16 months since Rioli’s 13-month stint ended although there was at least a vacant position where someone could have been appointed to the role.

See, this is the position I’d be trying to get Jimmy Bartel across for. Not a coaching/football department role, but he can be the director of football.
Whether he wants to, dunno. But he’s absolutely qualified for it.
