Unfortunately none of them are going to reward us.
I think Cox and Jones had talent and in a great football system likely wouldâve had good AFL careers. Essendon hasnât been able to get them fit or develop them with any continuity at any point in their careers. Add Reid to the list, likely the best of the three.
Not sure how you can make that call on Edwards who looked nothing but highly promising in his few outings.
Nice to see @Stallion doing the rounds to all the probable players to be delisted or traded threads .. wishing them a fond farewell .. lol ![]()
The real season for Essendon starts today.
So many good posts in this thread and itâs hard to disagree with any of them really.
god there are some wild ideas in the thread. good old blitz
I forgot about cox and Perkins. Dump them both
keep him in the vfl for depth
when we inevitably crash out circa round 9-10 next year itâll be handy to have a couple of players deep in the list to call up that have some actual afl experience
I say we just use a random number generator to determine who gets delisted. Plug in the number of delistings needed and boom.
Leave it to fate.*
*some algorithm which spits out random numbers
ANNOUNCE 25% TEAM DELISTING
Are we there yet?
GUT THE LIST
I will happily trade 75% of our list to Carlton in return for weitering
Even against port? 6 touches, 4 clangers, no goals then subbed in the last quarter.
At 25yo, he shouldnât have received a contract so early in the year
I know theyâre not what they used to be but contracts still play a role.

OOC players to go:
ADJ, Hobbs, Shiel, Lav, Menzie, Smartt, Goldstein, Setterfield.
Obvious choices. I like Setters but heâs too limited and too injury prone. Would love to have him captain the VFL side. If weâre desperate to use cap space you could give him a year but confine him to the ressies.
Contracted players to go:
Perkins, McKay, Parish, Jones, Gresham, Redman, Cox.
All stuffed beyond repair, at least for us. Pay contacts. Take seconds. Or thirds. Or nothing.
OOC but get a year:
Prior, Blakiston, McMahon, Lual.
Putting aside Priorâs first two games for the season, which Iâm still in therapy over, his season wasnât that bad overall. All are âmaybes.â Persist in the short term.
Lucky:
Guelfi is contracted and his swagger and love for niggle might prove handy in a leadership role. McGrath should be depth only. If he didnât have such a strong track record shutting down small forwards heâd be gone.
Langford seems like he can provide value as one of the senior members of the playing group. Canât have nothing but kids out there.
Every other player not mentioned is a clear keep or a contracted maybe (Edwards, ADW etc)
Swing that axe, you cowards. 10 delistings is not as aggressive as it sounds. The average last year was 8.5. My count is 15. Iâll be filthy with anything less than 12. As a side note, remember when that idiot Sam McClure sunk the boots into our list at the beginning of the season and some on blitz had a dummy spit? Anyone prepared to put their hand up on that one?
Players I predict will be gone by the end of the 2026 season, at which point Brad Scott will be sacked.
Johnson will be gone, yellow and brown in 2027
Given we signed Zach Reid to the end of 2028 just a couple of months back, I reckon heâll still be there. Jones is also contracted to end of 2027 but if he can cobble together a few decent games next season, I reckon some other team might have a nibble (just based on athletic profile). Actually, didnât see McKay - we are 100% stuck with him until his contract ends, too.
But otherwise, canât really argue. Weâd be doing well to get Parish, Ridley, Langford, and Wright off the books though. I could see maybe the latter two (especially if Langford plays all of 2026), but the former two would be a really hard sell. Long term deal, decent money, never on the park - I donât think that is ever in high demand.
Jones 2027 is straight up ridiculous.
